Target faculty and research roles first
Green Card sponsorship at Oklahoma State University concentrates in tenure-track faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and specialized research staff positions. Administrative and support roles rarely receive sponsorship, so focus your applications on academic departments and research centers with active grant funding.
Understand which Green Card pathway fits your role
OSU typically files EB-2 for positions requiring an advanced degree or exceptional ability, and EB-3 for roles needing a bachelor's degree. If your research record is strong enough, ask HR whether a National Interest Waiver under EB-2 could bypass the PERM labor certification process entirely.
Document your credentials before the PERM recruitment window opens
PERM requires OSU to prove no qualified U.S. workers are available for your role. Have your transcripts evaluated, publications listed, and foreign degree equivalency confirmed before DOL's mandatory recruitment period begins, so nothing delays certification once the process is underway.
Align your job duties with your SOC code
OSU's HR team files the PERM application using a Standard Occupational Classification code that determines prevailing wage obligations. Cross-reference your actual job duties against your O*NET occupation profile early and flag any mismatches to HR before filing, since DOL audits often focus on duty-to-code alignment.
Check prevailing wage requirements before negotiating salary
OSU must pay you at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location throughout the Green Card process. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your SOC code in Stillwater or your campus location before accepting an offer, so you can confirm compliance from day one.
Use Migrate Mate to find OSU Green Card roles
Identifying which OSU departments have active Green Card filing history is faster with Migrate Mate, which surfaces verified sponsorship data by employer and role type. Search OSU's profile to see which academic units sponsor most frequently before targeting specific departments in your application strategy.
Oklahoma State University Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Oklahoma State University sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Oklahoma State University sponsors Green Card visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff. Sponsorship is most common for tenure-track and research-intensive roles where OSU has a demonstrated institutional need for the candidate's expertise. Administrative and operational positions are sponsored far less frequently.
Which departments at Oklahoma State University most commonly sponsor Green Card visas?
Green Card sponsorship at OSU is concentrated in academic colleges with strong research programs, including engineering, sciences, agriculture, and health sciences. Research centers and institutes affiliated with OSU's main Stillwater campus are also active sponsors. Departments with active external grant funding are the most likely to initiate sponsorship for postdoctoral and faculty hires.
How do I start the Green Card process at Oklahoma State University?
The process typically begins after you receive a formal job offer. OSU's human resources or international faculty services team coordinates with immigration counsel to determine whether your role qualifies under EB-2 or EB-3. For most positions, OSU must complete the PERM labor certification through DOL before filing the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS.
How long does the Green Card process take at Oklahoma State University?
Timeline depends on your visa category and country of birth. PERM labor certification alone typically takes six months to over a year, and USCIS adjudication of the I-140 adds additional time. Applicants born in countries with visa backlogs, such as India or China, may wait years after I-140 approval before a visa number becomes available under their priority date.
How do I find open Green Card sponsorship jobs at Oklahoma State University?
Search OSU's official careers portal for positions that mention immigration sponsorship in the posting. Migrate Mate lets you filter employers by Green Card filing history, so you can identify which OSU departments have sponsored similar roles before applying. Reaching out directly to department hiring managers in your field can also clarify whether sponsorship is available before a formal posting goes live.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Oklahoma State University?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
