Match your credentials to Jefferson's pathway
Jefferson typically sponsors physicians and researchers through EB-1 or EB-2 pathways, while nursing and allied health roles often go through EB-3 with PERM labor certification. Identify which category fits your occupation before applying so you can frame your qualifications accordingly.
Audit your clinical documentation early
PERM requires proving no qualified U.S. worker was available for your role. Gather your foreign credential evaluations, nursing licensure equivalency letters, and specialty board certifications before Jefferson initiates recruitment. Gaps in documentation are the most common reason PERM timelines extend unexpectedly.
Target departments with recurring sponsorship history
Jefferson's clinical research divisions, graduate medical education programs, and specialized nursing units have recurring international hires. Focus your application on departments where international candidates are a structural part of the talent pipeline, not a one-off accommodation.
Negotiate Green Card language in your offer letter
Before signing, confirm whether Jefferson's offer includes an employer commitment to initiate PERM within a defined timeframe. Some healthcare systems begin sponsorship at hire; others wait until after a probationary period. Clarify this in writing so your permanent residency timeline is predictable.
Use Migrate Mate to verify Jefferson's filing history
Before your interview, search Jefferson's Labor Condition Application and Green Card filing history on Migrate Mate. Seeing which job titles and wage levels Jefferson has certified gives you concrete context for salary negotiations and confirms the employer's active sponsorship posture.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your offer
DOL sets the prevailing wage Jefferson must pay sponsored roles using the OFLC Wage Search. For healthcare roles, wage levels vary significantly by specialty, location, and experience tier. Run your job title through OFLC Wage Search before negotiating so your expected salary aligns with what Jefferson can legally certify.
Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees, primarily in clinical, research, and specialized healthcare roles. Sponsorship is handled through the EB-1, EB-2, or EB-3 immigrant visa categories depending on the role, with PERM labor certification required for most EB-2 and EB-3 cases. Sponsorship is typically initiated after an offer is extended and an employment relationship is established.
Which roles at Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Physicians, clinical researchers, registered nurses, and specialized allied health professionals are the roles most commonly sponsored for Green Card at Jefferson. Academic and research faculty positions within the university may also qualify for EB-1 or EB-2 National Interest Waiver pathways if the candidate's work meets the eligibility threshold. Administrative roles are rarely sponsored.
How do I start the Green Card process at Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health?
Raise Green Card sponsorship during or after the offer negotiation stage. Jefferson's HR and immigration team, often working with an external immigration law firm, initiates the PERM labor certification process with DOL. Your role is to supply complete credential documentation, foreign degree evaluations, and employment history records promptly to avoid delays in the recruitment advertising period PERM requires.
How long does the Green Card process take at Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health?
The timeline depends on your visa category and country of birth. PERM certification alone can take six to eighteen months, followed by the I-140 petition and, for applicants from countries with visa backlogs, a potentially lengthy priority date wait. EB-1 cases without PERM can move faster. USCIS publishes monthly visa bulletin updates that govern when your priority date becomes current.
How do I find open Green Card sponsorship roles at Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified Green Card sponsorship history, so you can identify Jefferson roles where sponsorship is an established practice rather than a case-by-case request. Cross-reference with Jefferson's own careers portal and look for postings that explicitly reference visa sponsorship or immigration support, which signals the department has done this before.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
