What Product Management Is Like At Gusto
Our Product team is lean, which means you’ll have a high degree of impact and ownership. We believe in smaller, empowered teams that move quickly with less overhead. You’ll move fast by pairing sharp product judgment with fluency in AI tools — automating what slows teams down and amplifying what makes them creative and high-performing.
We’re boundaryless builders. Lines between roles are intentionally blurred, and our PMs do whatever it takes to deliver outcomes. You’ll prototype, automate, design, and ship — using AI as your co-builder to turn problems into durable solutions that deliver customer value with urgency and care.
We’re here to serve small and medium businesses. Gusto has a strong mission-driven culture, and we care deeply about lifting up these business owners — building technology for an AI-first world that gives them the superpowers to run and grow their businesses with confidence.
We’re comfortable with change. Our environment moves fast, and PMs here thrive in ambiguity — blending curiosity, experimentation, and AI-native craft to shape how products (and work itself) are built at Gusto.
About The Team

If you enjoy uncovering & solving big customer problems, making complex things simple, and identifying new ways to delight and disrupt workflows with AI, we’d love to hear from you.

Build iteratively to quickly prove out hypotheses and test new concepts, always looking for ways to get stronger signal on new ideas
Partner closely with Engineering, Design, and Data Science on all stages of the product development process
Rapidly execute and iterate with an emphasis on user delight, impact, and learning. Regularly take risks and make calculated tradeoffs
Balance hands-on building with strategic storytelling that creates clarity and real value for the users we serve
* Define, measure, and improve key product and business metrics, especially in foundational areas like payroll task coordination, roles & permissions, reports, and other day-to-day workflows that are core to our users’ operations

Frame your PM credentials around compliance workflows
Gusto operates in the Accounting and Auditing space, so highlight any program management experience tied to regulatory compliance, audit cycles, or financial product launches. These credentials signal direct role fit and strengthen your visa petition's specialty occupation argument.
Target open roles during Gusto's hiring cycles
Gusto typically posts Program Manager roles in clusters tied to product expansion. Search for roles filtered by visa sponsorship availability on Migrate Mate to surface active Gusto openings before they close, since PM headcount often fills quickly once a hiring cycle opens.
Distinguish E-3 eligibility before applying
If you hold Australian citizenship, the E-3 visa is available year-round with no lottery. Gusto sponsors it for Program Managers, so flag your nationality early in recruiter conversations. The employer still files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before you can proceed.
Confirm H-1B cap timing with your recruiter early
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're interviewing at Gusto outside that window, ask explicitly whether cap-exempt alternatives or a deferred start are on the table before accepting an offer.
Align your interview narrative to cross-functional scope
Gusto's Program Managers work across engineering, finance, and compliance teams. Interviewers evaluate your ability to manage ambiguity across departments, not just execute project timelines. Concrete examples of multi-stakeholder programs you owned will carry more weight than methodology knowledge.

Find Program Manager at Gusto JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Gusto sponsor H-1B visas for Program Managers?
Yes, Gusto sponsors H-1B visas for Program Manager roles. Because Program Manager positions at Gusto require specialized knowledge of product operations, compliance workflows, or financial software, they generally qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria. Cap-subject petitions must be submitted by April 1 for an October 1 start date, so confirming your timeline with the recruiting team early in the process matters.
Which visa types does Gusto commonly sponsor for Program Managers?
Gusto sponsors H-1B, E-3, and employment-based Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for Program Managers. The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no annual lottery, making it a faster path than the H-1B for eligible candidates. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship typically follows after a period of employment and requires PERM labor certification through the Department of Labor.
How do I apply for Program Manager jobs at Gusto?
You can browse and apply for Program Manager openings at Gusto that are filtered for visa sponsorship directly through Migrate Mate. On Gusto's careers site, applications go through a structured hiring process that typically includes a recruiter screen, a written or take-home exercise, and a series of cross-functional panel interviews. Tailoring your application to reflect Gusto's payroll and accounting software context improves your chances of clearing the initial screen.
What qualifications does Gusto expect for Program Manager roles?
Gusto's Program Manager roles generally require a bachelor's degree in business, computer science, finance, or a related field, alongside demonstrable experience managing complex, cross-functional programs. Background in financial software, compliance-driven product environments, or accounting operations is a strong differentiator. USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B sponsorship, so your degree field and the job's core duties need to align clearly in any petition.
How do I understand the visa filing timeline if I receive an offer from Gusto?
Timeline depends on which visa type applies to you. H-1B cap petitions follow a fixed annual window with an April 1 filing deadline. E-3 applications can be filed at any time once your employer obtains a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. Green Card sponsorship through PERM is a multi-stage process that typically takes one to three years from initiation. Clarify which pathway Gusto intends to use before signing an offer so you can plan your work authorization gap, if any, accordingly.
