ABOUT THE JOB
The Division of Microbiology and Immunology within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking an Assistant Academic Research Scientist to join our team. Our work consists of an outstanding record of productive research in areas of high relevance to HIV, including vaccination, therapy, pathogenesis, and mucosal immunology, using HIV-infected human cohorts and nonhuman primate models such as rhesus macaques. In addition, this lab studies immune responses in human papillomavirus-related cervical and anal cancer in people living with HIV. These efforts focus on the immunologic underpinnings of HPV infection in this population and their associations with the microbiome, periodontal disease, high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, and social determinants linked to lesions most likely to progress to cancer.
The ideal candidate should be motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, have a positive attitude, and a passion for research. The Assistant Academic Research Scientist will be a team player who is willing to learn on the job and collaborate with lab members and center members. The Assistant Academic Research Scientist will work to ensure the highest quality of laboratory research support and has good communication skills with co-workers, the management team, PIs, research staff, students, and other support services.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs. Responsible for working with experimental platforms specific to the hiring Program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Duties will include, but are not limited to, experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.
- Will be required to review literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.
- May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.
- Performs other responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD or MD OR Master's degree and five years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
- Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.
- Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment.
- NOTE: Applicants applying with an M.D. or equivalent degree must be eligible for a Georgia medical license to meet the minimum qualifications.
PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
