Target roles that align with Genentech's core research areas
Genentech's H-1B sponsorship is concentrated in scientific and technical functions. Focus your search on computational biology, clinical operations, pharmaceutical sciences, and medical affairs roles, where the company has the strongest track record of sponsoring international candidates.
Verify sponsorship history before applying
Not every open role at Genentech comes with H-1B sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you prioritize applications to positions where sponsorship has actually been offered.
Engage Genentech's university recruiting pipeline early
Genentech actively recruits from graduate programs in life sciences and engineering. Connecting through campus events, internships, or research partnerships puts you in front of hiring managers before competitive positions are posted publicly.
Understand that Genentech files H-1B petitions directly through its in-house immigration team
Large employers in the medical devices and biotech space typically manage H-1B filings internally. Confirm early in the hiring process whether Genentech will handle your petition in-house or through an outside immigration counsel.
Prepare for a multi-stage interview process before sponsorship is confirmed
Genentech's hiring process for sponsored roles often involves multiple rounds across scientific and cross-functional teams. H-1B sponsorship is typically confirmed at the offer stage, so treat every interview round as essential to securing the outcome.
Time your applications around the H-1B cap and lottery calendar
For cap-subject positions at Genentech, your start date must align with the October 1 fiscal year. Aim to receive and accept an offer well before the April lottery registration window so your employer can file on your behalf.
Genentech H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Genentech sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Genentech sponsors H-1B visas. The company is a well-established H-1B sponsor with consistent filings across scientific, clinical, and technical roles. Sponsorship is most common in positions requiring specialized degrees in life sciences, bioinformatics, regulatory affairs, and pharmaceutical development, where the role meets the specialty occupation standard.
Which departments at Genentech are most likely to offer H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Genentech is most concentrated in research and early development, clinical sciences, bioinformatics and data science, regulatory affairs, and medical affairs. Engineering and manufacturing roles supporting biologics production have also historically received sponsorship. Roles in general business functions are less commonly sponsored unless the position requires a specialized degree.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Genentech?
Once Genentech extends an offer, the company's immigration team or external counsel handles the H-1B petition filing, including the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. Your role is to provide employment and education documentation promptly. For cap-subject positions, Genentech must register you in the USCIS lottery before filing the full petition.
How long does H-1B sponsorship at Genentech typically take?
For cap-subject roles, the process runs from lottery registration in March to a potential October 1 start date. If Genentech files with premium processing, USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days of receipt. Cap-exempt situations, such as transfers from another H-1B employer, can move faster since they bypass the lottery entirely.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Genentech?
Search Genentech's careers portal directly and filter by department and location. Migrate Mate also lists Genentech among verified H-1B sponsors, so you can browse open roles and cross-reference sponsorship history without having to guess which positions are visa-friendly. Applying to roles clearly tied to Genentech's sponsored functions improves your chances significantly.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Genentech?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
