INTRODUCTION
Technology Research at Riot exists to give the company early conviction on technologies that could redefine how games are built and played. Our work spans Game AI, Next-Generation AI Games, and Foundational Models, and we combine frontier research with hands-on prototyping to shape Riot’s long-term future.
As Director of Research, you will be accountable for the performance, health, and long-term capability of a multi-disciplinary research organization spanning Research Scientists, Software Engineers, and emerging technical roles. You will build and lead the people systems that enable ambitious research to thrive.
You will report to the Head of Research and partner closely on organizational strategy. The Head of Research owns research direction, technical quality bar, and research bets. You own the organizational structure, staffing, performance systems, and talent development that enable that ambition to be realized sustainably and at scale. Together, you form a complementary leadership pair: one defining scientific direction, the other building and sustaining the organization that delivers it.
This is a full-time role based in Los Angeles, CA.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Riot Games H-1B Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target roles that align with Riot's core tech stack
Riot Games sponsors H-1B most consistently for software engineering, data science, and product roles. Focus your application on positions where your technical specialty matches their game development, platform infrastructure, or machine learning priorities.
Apply well before the H-1B cap deadline
H-1B registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Riot Games needs time to prepare your petition before the window closes, so securing an offer by late January or February gives both sides the best chance of meeting that deadline.
Be explicit about your visa status in your application
Riot Games's recruiting team needs to know upfront that you require H-1B sponsorship. Clearly stating your current status and work authorization needs in your application prevents misunderstandings and helps recruiters route you to the right hiring process.
Use verified sponsorship data to find open roles
Not every Riot Games job listing signals H-1B willingness clearly. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship is unlikely to be approved.
Lean into Riot's global and cross-functional culture
Riot operates globally and hires internationally across game studios, esports, and publishing divisions. Highlighting cross-cultural collaboration or experience on globally distributed teams resonates with their hiring values and strengthens your case as an international candidate.
Understand Riot's internal H-1B process after an offer
Once Riot extends an offer, their legal or HR team initiates the H-1B petition process, which includes a Labor Condition Application filed with the Department of Labor. Respond promptly to documentation requests to keep the petition timeline on track.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Riot Games sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Riot Games sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying roles across its technology, engineering, and creative teams. As a major player in the global gaming and software industry, Riot has an established track record of supporting international employees through the H-1B process, making it a realistic target for candidates who need sponsorship.
Which roles and departments at Riot Games typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Riot Games is most common in software engineering, data science, product management, and technical art roles. These positions align with the specialty occupation requirement central to the H-1B category. Roles in business operations or general administration are less likely to receive sponsorship, as they may not meet the degree-specific criteria USCIS requires.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Riot Games?
After Riot Games extends a job offer, their HR or immigration team works with an outside immigration law firm to prepare your H-1B petition. The process starts with a Labor Condition Application filed with the Department of Labor, followed by the I-129 petition to USCIS. Your role is to provide documentation quickly, including your degree certificates, transcripts, and employment history.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Riot Games?
The H-1B cap registration window opens in March each year, with an October 1 employment start date for selected petitions. If you are currently on F-1 OPT or another status, you may be able to start sooner and transfer later. Aim to have your offer finalized by late winter to give Riot Games enough preparation time before the filing window closes.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Riot Games that are realistically open to sponsored candidates?
Job listings rarely state clearly whether H-1B sponsorship is available for a specific opening. Migrate Mate aggregates verified H-1B sponsorship data so you can identify Riot Games roles where sponsorship has historically been approved, reducing the time you spend pursuing positions that may not support your immigration needs. Prioritize technical and engineering listings where Riot's sponsorship pattern is strongest.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Riot Games?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
