Align your degree to specialty occupation standards
Salas O'Brien's H-1B filings center on engineering and technical consulting roles that require a specific degree field, not just any bachelor's. Use O*NET to confirm the degree requirement for your target job title before you apply, so your credentials match the specialty occupation standard USCIS will scrutinize.
Research Salas O'Brien's active project disciplines
The firm works across electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering in building and infrastructure consulting. Targeting roles in those disciplines increases the odds your application lands with a team that has a track record of sponsoring, rather than one where H-1B requests are rare internal exceptions.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm H-1B filing history
Before investing time in the application process, use Migrate Mate to review Salas O'Brien's verified DOL Labor Condition Application data by role and location. That lets you identify which job titles and offices have supported H-1B filings, so you're targeting positions with a real sponsorship path.
Negotiate sponsorship timing before accepting an offer
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start, so a mid-year offer may require bridging on OPT, CPT, or another status. Clarify with Salas O'Brien's HR team when they intend to file and whether they'll support premium processing before you sign anything.
Verify your prevailing wage tier early in the process
Salas O'Brien must certify your offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. Run your job title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search to understand which wage level applies to your experience, so a lower offer doesn't stall the LCA certification stage.
Prepare a detailed employment verification package
Consulting firms like Salas O'Brien often place engineers at client sites, which can complicate USCIS's itinerary requirements for H-1B petitions. Gather project assignment letters, client contracts, and scope-of-work documentation before filing so your attorney can address the work-location requirements without delays.
Salas O'Brien H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Salas O'Brien sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Salas O'Brien sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying roles in engineering and technical consulting. The firm operates in a specialty-occupation-intensive industry, and its core disciplines in electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering align well with the degree-specific requirements USCIS uses to evaluate H-1B petitions. Sponsorship availability varies by role, office, and project pipeline, so confirming directly with the recruiting team during the offer stage is essential.
Which roles at Salas O'Brien are most likely to receive H-1B sponsorship?
Engineering roles with clear specialty occupation requirements are the strongest candidates, particularly in electrical, mechanical, and building systems consulting. These positions tie directly to specific degree fields, which satisfies USCIS's threshold requirement. Project management and technical consulting roles may also qualify depending on how the job duties and degree requirements are documented in the LCA and I-129 petition.
How do I start the H-1B sponsorship process at Salas O'Brien?
The process begins after a job offer is extended. Salas O'Brien's HR or legal team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, then submits the H-1B petition to USCIS during the annual cap registration window in March. You can use Migrate Mate to understand the filing timeline and what documentation you'll need to provide your employer before the petition is prepared.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at a consulting firm like Salas O'Brien?
For cap-subject cases, USCIS registration opens in March, selections are announced shortly after, and approved petitions take effect October 1. Standard adjudication runs several months from filing, though premium processing can reduce USCIS's decision time to roughly 15 business days. If you're currently on OPT or CPT, your employer will need to time the filing to avoid a gap in your work authorization.
What should I bring up about H-1B sponsorship during a Salas O'Brien interview?
Wait until you have a formal offer or are in late-stage interviews before raising sponsorship directly. When you do, ask whether the specific role has supported H-1B filings before, who manages the filing internally, and whether they use premium processing. Framing the conversation around the role's eligibility rather than general sponsorship willingness tends to get more useful answers from hiring managers and recruiters.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Salas O'Brien?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
