Align your credentials with U.S. standards
Hilton's culinary teams expect formal training or equivalent experience. Having your culinary diploma or apprenticeship evaluated by a NACES-recognized credential service strengthens your application and removes ambiguity for the hiring manager and the visa petition.
Target properties with seasonal staffing cycles
Hilton's resort and convention properties have predictable high-demand seasons. Applications for Sous Chef roles timed to those cycles, particularly late fall for spring and summer openings, align with when properties are actively recruiting and initiating visa filings.
Understand the H-2B cap and filing windows
H-2B visas are subject to a congressional cap that fills quickly each fiscal year. USCIS opens registration periods at the start of each half-year allocation, so your employer needs to move fast. Confirm Hilton's intended start date and work backward from DOL certification deadlines.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Sous Chef listings
Filtering for Hilton properties currently hiring Sous Chefs saves time and surfaces roles where sponsorship is already in scope. Migrate Mate's job board focuses specifically on visa-sponsoring employers, so you're not guessing about willingness to sponsor.
Prepare a kitchen-specific skills portfolio
Hilton properties operate across multiple cuisines and service styles, from casual dining to banquet operations. Documenting your specific competencies, including butchery, allergen management, and high-volume plating, gives the hiring manager a clear picture before the first interview.
Clarify DOL labor certification requirements early
H-2B sponsorship requires Hilton to obtain a temporary labor certification from the DOL before USCIS can process your petition. Asking the recruiter directly where they are in that process tells you how close the role is to being petition-ready.

Find Sous Chef at Hilton JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Hilton sponsor H-1B visas for Sous Chefs?
H-1B sponsorship for Sous Chef roles is uncommon at Hilton. The H-1B is designed for specialty occupations that typically require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Culinary roles are more frequently staffed through the H-2B visa, which covers temporary or seasonal non-agricultural workers. If you're targeting a long-term path, discussing options with a sponsoring property directly is the most reliable next step.
Which visa types are commonly used for Sous Chef roles at Hilton?
The H-2B visa is the most commonly used pathway for Sous Chef roles at Hilton, particularly for seasonal or temporary positions at resort and convention properties. This visa requires the employer to obtain a temporary labor certification from the DOL before filing with USCIS. For candidates with extraordinary culinary recognition, the O-1 visa is a separate option, though it carries a higher evidentiary burden.
What qualifications and experience does Hilton expect for a Sous Chef role?
Hilton generally looks for candidates with formal culinary training or equivalent professional kitchen experience, typically several years in a supervisory or senior line cook capacity. Experience in high-volume environments, such as hotel banquets, catering, or multi-outlet properties, is particularly relevant. Proficiency in food safety standards, team coordination, and menu execution across multiple service types strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How do I apply for Sous Chef jobs at Hilton?
You can browse open Sous Chef positions at Hilton through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where visa sponsorship is already part of the hiring picture. From there, applications typically go through Hilton's own careers portal. Having your culinary credentials, prior employment history, and any relevant certifications ready before applying speeds up the process, since sponsoring employers move quickly once they identify a strong candidate.
How do I understand the timeline for H-2B sponsorship at Hilton?
H-2B sponsorship involves two sequential government processes: DOL labor certification and USCIS petition approval. DOL certification alone can take several weeks, and USCIS processing adds additional time on top of that. H-2B visas are also subject to a numerical cap, and registrations for each half-year allocation open on specific dates. Starting conversations with the property's HR team well in advance of your intended start date is essential.
