Frame your credentials around care coordination
Humana's Service Coordinator roles sit within managed care and benefits administration, not traditional clinical settings. Tailor your resume to highlight case management, member outreach, or utilization review experience so hiring managers can directly map your background to their workflows.
Target Humana's Medicare and Medicaid business units
Service Coordinator openings at Humana concentrate in its government programs divisions serving Medicare Advantage and Medicaid populations. Filtering your search by these segments surfaces roles with the most active hiring cycles and the strongest sponsorship precedent for this function.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsorship-verified openings
Not every Service Coordinator posting at Humana explicitly states visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter roles by confirmed sponsorship history so you're only spending time on positions where Humana has a real track record of supporting candidates through the process.
Clarify OPT and CPT eligibility before your first interview
If you're on an F-1 visa, confirm whether the specific Service Coordinator role qualifies under your major's STEM or non-STEM OPT category before interviewing. Humana's HR teams will ask about your authorization timeline early, so knowing your exact end date and Cap Gap eligibility prevents delays.
Ask the recruiter about their PERM timeline for this role
Service Coordinator positions can support EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, but Humana's timeline varies by business unit. Asking the recruiter directly whether the role has an established job description on file with the DOL signals you understand the process and saves months of ambiguity.
Confirm your start date accounts for H-1B cap timing
If you need an H-1B, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start. Build this into your offer negotiation with Humana so your proposed start date aligns with cap-subject processing windows rather than requiring a costly TN or bridge status workaround.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Humana sponsor H-1B visas for Service Coordinators?
Yes, Humana sponsors H-1B visas for Service Coordinator roles. Because these positions typically require a bachelor's degree in a health-related or social services field, they generally qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria. Sponsorship availability can vary by business unit, so confirming with the recruiter early in the process is the most reliable approach.
How do I apply for Service Coordinator jobs at Humana?
You can apply through Humana's careers portal directly or browse sponsorship-verified Service Coordinator openings through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where Humana has a confirmed history of supporting visa candidates. Tailoring your application to highlight care coordination, member services, or case management experience meaningfully improves your chances of moving past the initial screening stage.
Which visa types does Humana commonly use for Service Coordinator roles?
Humana supports several pathways for Service Coordinators, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students in relevant degree programs. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship through PERM labor certification is also available depending on the role and business unit.
What qualifications does Humana look for in Service Coordinator candidates?
Humana typically expects a bachelor's degree in social work, health sciences, public health, or a related field for Service Coordinator positions. Practical experience in case management, care coordination, member advocacy, or utilization review carries significant weight. Familiarity with Medicare Advantage or Medicaid populations and proficiency with care management platforms strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for this role?
From offer to authorization, timelines depend heavily on your current visa status. H-1B transfers for existing H-1B holders can allow a start within weeks of filing. New H-1B cap filings require aligning your start date with the October 1 cap year. TN status for eligible nationals can be obtained at a port of entry in a single day. PERM-based Green Card cases typically run 18 months or longer.
