POSITION TITLE: Health Education Teacher (0.5 FTE - Part-Time)
SUPERVISES: Directly supervises students assigned to his/her classes. Indirectly supervises all students.
JOB GOAL: To develop in each student an awareness of proper health/hygiene practices in order that all students may derive both intellectual and practical benefits in the field of health education.
QUALIFICATIONS: Possess valid Alabama Teacher Certificate; Proper Endorsement in Teaching Field; and such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable.

SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach skills, knowledge and facts pertaining to one or more courses/units of health education. One unit during the semester will consist of AIDS instruction. All instruction will utilize the course of study approved by the state and other appropriate learning activities.

Demonstrate health education concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids.

Conceive and supervise a variety of programs and displays concerning health and safety education.

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the classroom where several kinds of activities may be taking place simultaneously.

Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

Prepare written lesson plans with appropriate objectives and utilizes appropriate state standards, guides, tasks lists, etc.

Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district's and school's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, policy, and administrative regulation.

Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional environment when required or requested to do so under reasonable circumstances.

Sponsor student extracurricular organizations as requested.

Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. Provides nine week and mid-nine week progress reports as well as keeping students and parents aware of at least weekly progress.

Assist the administration with and/or supervises entry and exit of students while providing supervision of the commons areas as assigned.
