Align Your Credentials to U.S. Accreditation Standards
Community colleges like Ivy Tech require discipline-specific credentials that meet regional accreditation standards. If your degree was earned abroad, get a course-by-course credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying, not after receiving an offer.
Target Campuses With Workforce Shortage Disciplines
Ivy Tech operates across Indiana with varying faculty needs by campus and term. Prioritize applications in high-demand areas like healthcare, IT, and engineering technology, where adjunct hiring tends to be more active and sponsorship conversations are more realistic.
Clarify Sponsorship Willingness Before Accepting Any Offer
Adjunct roles at community colleges often start as semester-by-semester contracts. Confirm the department can commit to H-1B sponsorship requirements, including full-time or part-time status thresholds, before the offer stage so there are no surprises at the USCIS petition phase.
Understand How OPT and CPT Apply to Adjunct Work
If you're on F-1 status, adjunct teaching at Ivy Tech may qualify as OPT-authorized employment if it directly relates to your field of study. Confirm the role aligns with your designated major before your DSO updates your work authorization record.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Active Adjunct Openings
Ivy Tech lists adjunct positions across many campuses simultaneously, which makes tracking openings manually difficult. Use Migrate Mate to filter Adjunct Faculty roles at Ivy Tech by visa sponsorship type so you can prioritize the applications most likely to lead to sponsorship.
Plan Around the H-1B Cap Exemption for Ivy Tech
Community colleges that qualify as cap-exempt institutions can file H-1B petitions at any time of year without waiting for the April lottery window. Confirm with Ivy Tech's HR team whether their institutional status makes your petition cap-exempt, which significantly shortens your timeline.

Does Ivy Tech Community College sponsor H-1B visas for Adjunct Facultys?
Yes, Ivy Tech Community College has sponsored H-1B visas for faculty roles. As a nonprofit educational institution, Ivy Tech may qualify as a cap-exempt employer under H-1B rules, meaning petitions can be filed year-round without entering the annual lottery. Confirm your specific role's eligibility directly with their HR or international hiring team before accepting an offer.
How do I apply for Adjunct Faculty jobs at Ivy Tech Community College?
Applications go through Ivy Tech's online careers portal, where openings are listed by campus and discipline. Roles fill on a rolling basis, so applying early in a semester's hiring cycle improves your chances. You can also browse Adjunct Faculty openings at Ivy Tech filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify positions aligned with your work authorization.
Which visa types are commonly used for Adjunct Faculty roles at Ivy Tech Community College?
H-1B is the most common work visa for adjunct faculty, particularly for roles requiring a specialty degree. J-1 Exchange Visitor status is also used for teaching appointments tied to academic exchange programs. F-1 OPT and CPT can cover adjunct work when the position aligns directly with your field of study. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying academic roles.
What qualifications are expected for Adjunct Faculty positions at Ivy Tech?
Minimum qualifications vary by discipline but typically require a master's degree in the teaching field, or a bachelor's degree with significant professional experience for workforce and technical programs. Foreign credentials need to be evaluated by a NACES-approved service to confirm U.S. equivalency. Industry certifications can supplement academic credentials for technical and healthcare-related courses.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Adjunct Faculty role at Ivy Tech?
If Ivy Tech qualifies as cap-exempt, an H-1B petition can be filed at any point in the year, with standard USCIS processing taking three to six months.
