Align your credentials to state licensing requirements
Indiana community colleges often require Instructors to hold field-specific certifications alongside a degree. Verify your credentials meet state and institutional standards before applying, as gaps can delay an LCA filing or complicate the H-1B petition.
Target discipline-specific openings across campuses
Ivy Tech operates locations throughout Indiana, and instructor vacancies vary significantly by campus and program area. Applying to multiple campuses in your field increases your chances of finding a department with active hiring authority and sponsorship willingness.
Ask HR directly about departmental sponsorship approval
Community colleges often require department chairs and HR to jointly approve sponsorship before extending an offer. Confirm this internal process early so you understand who has final authority and can avoid accepting a verbal offer that stalls later.
Use Migrate Mate to filter instructor openings by sponsorship history
Searching broadly across job boards makes it hard to separate sponsoring employers from those that don't. Use Migrate Mate to browse Ivy Tech instructor roles filtered by verified sponsorship track record, so you focus your applications where they'll land.
Secure your J-1 or OPT documentation before your start date
If you're entering on a J-1 or F-1 OPT, your program sponsor or Designated School Official must issue updated authorization before you begin work. Delays in this paperwork can push back your start date even after Ivy Tech extends a formal offer.

Find Instructor at Ivy Tech Community College JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Ivy Tech Community College sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Ivy Tech Community College sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor roles. As a public community college, it qualifies as a cap-exempt institution, which means petitions can be filed with USCIS at any time of year without waiting for the annual lottery. This makes the sponsorship process more predictable than at most private-sector employers.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Ivy Tech Community College?
Applications are submitted through Ivy Tech's official careers portal, where postings are listed by campus and program area. You'll typically need to submit a resume, cover letter, and transcripts. For international applicants, it's worth identifying openings in your specific discipline first, since sponsorship decisions are often made at the department level before HR gets involved.
Which visa types does Ivy Tech Community College commonly use for Instructor roles?
Ivy Tech sponsors Instructors through H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT, as well as EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for longer-term hires. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. J-1 is common for visiting or exchange faculty. The right pathway depends on your nationality, qualifications, and career stage.
What qualifications does Ivy Tech Community College expect for Instructor positions?
Requirements vary by program area. Most credit-bearing instructor roles require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant field, though some technical and workforce programs accept a bachelor's degree combined with substantial industry experience. Certain disciplines, such as nursing or automotive technology, also require active professional licensure or certification recognized in Indiana.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Ivy Tech Instructor role?
For H-1B cap-exempt petitions, USCIS standard processing runs three to five months, with premium processing available to reduce that to around 15 business days. If Ivy Tech pursues PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, DOL labor certification alone can take 12 to 18 months before the immigrant petition is even filed. Browse current Ivy Tech instructor openings with sponsorship history on Migrate Mate to plan your timeline accordingly.
