Certify hands-on semiconductor equipment experience
Lam Research evaluates Service Techs on direct experience with CVD, etch, or deposition systems. Document your equipment-specific work in your resume with system names and repair scopes, not just job titles.
Target field service roles at fab-adjacent locations
Lam's Service Tech openings are concentrated near major semiconductor manufacturing hubs. Filtering by location before applying helps you identify roles tied to active customer accounts, where sponsorship timelines are often more predictable.
Align your visa category to your degree and timeline
Lam sponsors multiple visa types for this function. If your degree is in engineering or a related field, H-1B is the primary path, but OPT or CPT lets you start while your petition is pending, so map your status to your graduation date early.
Prepare your credentials for specialty occupation documentation
USCIS requires the employer to show the role meets specialty occupation standards. Gather transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations, and any technical certifications now, so Lam's immigration team can build a stronger I-129 petition without delays.
Understand the H-1B cap and registration window
H-1B has an annual cap with registrations opening each March for an October 1 start. If you're not on OPT, missing that window means waiting a full year, so time your Lam application to align with the USCIS registration cycle.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Service Tech roles at Lam
Sorting through Lam's postings manually is slow and misses roles added mid-cycle. Migrate Mate filters Lam Research openings by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you can focus your applications on positions actively available to international candidates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Service Techs?
Yes, Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Service Tech roles. The position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation when the role requires a degree in engineering, electronics, or a closely related technical field. Your application package should make the degree-to-role connection explicit, since USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for field service positions more closely than for traditional engineering desk roles.
How do I apply for Service Tech jobs at Lam Research?
Applications go through Lam Research's careers portal. Search for field service, customer support engineer, or service technician postings filtered by region. Tailor your resume to the specific equipment families listed in each job description. Migrate Mate also aggregates Lam's open Service Tech roles with sponsorship filters applied, which can surface relevant postings faster than a manual search.
Which visa types are commonly used for Service Tech roles at Lam Research?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Service Tech positions. F-1 OPT is the most practical entry point for recent graduates, since it lets you start immediately while a long-term petition is prepared. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles and does not require lottery participation.
What qualifications and experience does Lam Research expect for Service Tech roles?
Lam Research looks for hands-on experience with semiconductor process equipment, particularly CVD, etch, or deposition platforms. An associate or bachelor's degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or mechatronics is standard. Field troubleshooting experience, the ability to read schematics, and familiarity with cleanroom protocols all strengthen your candidacy. Roles supporting active customer accounts at fabs often require prior on-site equipment installation or preventive maintenance experience.
How do I navigate the sponsorship timeline for a Service Tech offer at Lam Research?
Timeline depends on which visa category applies to your situation. OPT and CPT can begin quickly once authorized by your school's DSO. H-1B has a fixed annual cycle with USCIS registration in March and an October 1 start date. Premium processing is available for H-1B and can reduce USCIS adjudication to 15 business days. Build at least two to three months of buffer between your offer acceptance and your expected start date to allow for LCA filing with DOL before the I-129 is submitted.
