The Role Most CI/CD architects have never touched an FPGA board. Most FPGA engineers have never built a scalable board farm. This role sits at that rare intersection — and we need someone who owns both. As Principal Architect for FPGA Build Systems and SW Configuration at Lattice, you will define and own the infrastructure that every firmware engineer at Lattice depends on — from CMake toolchains and JFrog pipelines to a scalable FPGA board farm with hardware security baked in from day one. This is a high-autonomy, high-visibility role with direct impact on how Lattice ships FPGA firmware globally.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Build Systems & CI/CD
- Design and maintain modular CMake toolchains for FPGA firmware targeting Lattice devices
- Integrate CMake build pipelines with JFrog Artifactory for versioned binary, bitstream, and IP core artifact storage
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub CI, or equivalent) that trigger FPGA builds on commit and publish artifacts to Artifactory
Security & Compliance
- Enforce hardware security policies across the FPGA board farm — secure boot, bitstream encryption, JTAG access controls
- Configure JFrog Xray for vulnerability scanning of firmware dependencies and third-party IP cores; remediate findings within SLA
- Manage access control and audit logging for board farm resources
- Conduct periodic security reviews and produce compliance reports for internal audit teams
FPGA Board Farm Management
- Provision, rack, and maintain a scalable fleet of FPGA development and test boards — cabling, power management, remote access infrastructure (USB/JTAG over IP, lab automation controllers)
- Develop a board reservation and scheduling system to maximize utilization across development, verification, and production teams
- Monitor board health, availability, and failure rates; maintain spare inventory and coordinate replacement with procurement
- Author and maintain runbooks, onboarding guides, and operational documentation
Architecture & Governance
- Partner with verification, firmware, and security architecture teams to define build and deployment standards
- Present infrastructure status, risk posture, and improvement roadmaps to senior stakeholders quarterly
- Ensure all toolchain and infrastructure changes follow the change management process
- Define the long-term architecture vision for FPGA build infrastructure at Lattice
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 12+ years of experience in software/firmware infrastructure, build systems, or DevOps — with direct FPGA or embedded hardware exposure
- Deep expertise in CMake — modular toolchain design, cross-compilation, FPGA-specific build flows
- Hands-on experience with JFrog Artifactory and Xray — artifact management, vulnerability scanning, repository governance
- Strong CI/CD pipeline development — Jenkins, GitHub CI, or equivalent in a hardware/firmware context
- Experience managing physical lab infrastructure — FPGA board farms, JTAG over IP, remote access, power management
- Solid understanding of hardware security — secure boot, bitstream encryption, JTAG access controls
- Track record of defining architecture standards and driving them across engineering teams
- Strong communicator — comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and producing governance documentation
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Lattice FPGA devices or Lattice design tools
- Familiarity with board reservation and scheduling systems for shared lab environments
- Background in compliance reporting for internal or external audits

Target engineering and hardware design roles
Lattice Semiconductor's sponsorship activity centers on technical functions. Focus your applications on roles in FPGA design, embedded systems, digital logic, and semiconductor engineering, where the company's sponsorship track record is strongest.
Understand that Lattice sponsors both temporary and permanent status
Lattice Semiconductor files both H-1B petitions and Green Card applications, so there's a pathway beyond temporary status. If long-term U.S. residence is your goal, ask recruiters explicitly about their Green Card sponsorship process during interviews.
Align your background with low-power and edge computing specializations
Lattice is differentiated by its focus on low-power programmable logic. Candidates with experience in power-constrained design, FPGA toolchains, or edge AI hardware are well-positioned to stand out and attract sponsorship consideration from hiring managers.
Research open roles before outreach
Before contacting Lattice recruiters, identify specific open positions that match your background. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and find Lattice Semiconductor roles relevant to your visa type.
Factor in TN visa eligibility if you're Canadian or Mexican
Lattice Semiconductor has sponsored TN visas in addition to H-1B. If you're a Canadian or Mexican national in a qualifying engineering role, TN sponsorship may be a faster and simpler path worth discussing with the hiring team upfront.
Prepare for a technical-first hiring process
Lattice's interviews are heavily technical, especially for IC design and firmware roles. Demonstrating deep hardware expertise early in the process signals the specialized value that typically drives a company this size to invest in visa sponsorship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Lattice Semiconductor sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Lattice Semiconductor sponsors H-1B visas. The company has an established track record of filing H-1B petitions for skilled technical employees, primarily in engineering and hardware design disciplines. If you're pursuing an H-1B through Lattice, focus on roles where your specialized background in FPGAs, embedded systems, or semiconductor design directly matches an open position.
What visa types does Lattice Semiconductor sponsor?
Lattice Semiconductor sponsors H-1B visas for temporary work authorization, Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for permanent residence, and TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals. The mix reflects a company that supports both short-term work authorization and long-term immigration pathways for technical employees.
Which roles at Lattice Semiconductor are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Lattice Semiconductor is concentrated in technical roles, particularly FPGA design engineers, digital logic designers, embedded software engineers, and semiconductor process roles. These positions require specialized, degree-level expertise that aligns with H-1B specialty occupation standards, making them the most common candidates for sponsorship.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Lattice Semiconductor?
The most reliable approach is to search on Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by verified sponsorship history so you can confirm Lattice Semiconductor is actively sponsoring before you apply. From there, cross-reference Lattice's own careers page to find current openings, then tailor your application to the specific technical requirements listed in each role.
How do I approach the application process at Lattice Semiconductor as a visa-requiring candidate?
Apply directly to roles that match your technical background and be prepared to discuss your visa status early. Lattice Semiconductor is an established sponsor, so recruiters are generally familiar with the process. Come prepared with clarity on your current status, your authorization timeline, and whether you need H-1B transfer or new cap-subject sponsorship, so the team can assess feasibility quickly.
