INTRODUCTION
At Meter, we’re rebuilding networking from the ground up—hardware, software, and operations—so enterprises can finally have networks that are fast, secure, reliable, and evolve without friction. Data centers are the next step in the evolution of Meter’s product line. We’ve built a strong business providing enterprise and campus networks to our customers, and now we need to help them move data into, out of, and across their data centers. Data centers are critical to the world. All traffic on the public internet and private clouds, including AI models’ training and inference, depends on data centers to process, store, and move data quickly. Our reliance on data centers will only grow, with Morgan Stanley estimating that between 2025 and 2029 global spending on data centers will hit $3 trillion.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What success looks like
In this role, you'll build the teams that build Meter’s Data Center product line – across hardware, software, and firmware engineering. You'll report into the head of Meter's data center business, working closely with Meter's founders and engineering leadership. Your goal is to continuously raise the bar with each hire you make. Within six months, you'll have built a recruiting engine that consistently sources and closes exceptional engineers who thrive at Meter. By the end of your first year, your success will be measured by the following:
- Hiring quality: Your hires' 6-month performance ratings consistently exceed or greatly exceed hiring manager expectations. You achieve 90%+ new hire retention through year one with hiring managers consistently sharing they would enthusiastically rehire these colleagues.
- Hiring velocity: You'll reduce time-to-hire by 20% from the current baseline, maintaining an ≥80% offer acceptance rate.
What your day-to-day will look like
You’ll own everything from mapping the market, to attracting and evaluating talent, to closing candidates. You'll partner with hiring managers to define role requirements, design search-related collateral, and implement rigorous, reliable hiring practices. You'll build and nurture strong relationships with candidates who are known for being the best at their craft, serving as Meter's expert on who is the right candidate to pursue for any given search. Great work happens through sheer perseverance and doing the basics really well (e.g., following up one more time to a prospect you’ve been pursuing, finding a way to get an intro, shipping something personal to a candidate, etc.).
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- You have a track record of identifying and closing top-tier engineering talent, with expertise in evaluating technical depth across hardware, software, and firmware disciplines.
- You’re known for consistently building lean, high performing engineering teams at ambitious, fast-growing technology companies.
- You bring clarity and confidence to the hiring process, enabling your hiring partners to make decisions with a high degree of conviction.
- You've built recruiting processes that scale with fast growing, early stage functions.
WHY METER?
The internet runs the world. Every email you send, purchase you make, video call you join—it’s all packets flowing through networks. But those networks haven’t changed for decades. They’re brittle, complex, and surprisingly hard to set up in an enterprise space. We started Meter to build better networks. We had to build everything from the ground-up: designing and building our own enterprise hardware, intuitive software, and streamlined operations to deliver great outcomes for our customers. Today, we build and deploy these networks at scale. Ambitious companies and enduring institutions like Bridgewater, Lyft, Reddit, rely on Meter to keep their thousands of employees and locations online and productive. Our bet with Meter is simple: we will all use the internet more than we do today. We believe we have the definitive networking stack in place to enable business to do so as seamlessly and reliably as any modern utility.
COMPENSATION
- The estimated pay range for this role is $130,000 - $190,000.
- Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Meter's equity plan.

Tips for Finding Technical Sales Engineer Jobs at Meter
Frame your credentials around networking infrastructure
Meter sells managed networking hardware and software to businesses, so your resume and portfolio should highlight hands-on experience with switching, routing, or enterprise Wi-Fi. Interviewers will probe technical depth before evaluating your sales instincts.
Confirm E-3 eligibility before your interview
Meter sponsors E-3 visas for this role, but you'll need a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before your consulate appointment. Have your degree transcripts ready to demonstrate the specialty occupation requirement, since technical sales roles can draw extra scrutiny.
Target Meter's regional office openings strategically
Meter posts Technical Sales Engineer roles across multiple cities. Applying to locations where the team is actively scaling gives you better odds of a faster hiring decision and a sponsorship-motivated hiring manager who's already budgeted for the process.
Clarify CPT authorization timing with your DSO early
If you're on F-1 and want to start before graduation, CPT authorization from your Designated School Official must be in place before your first day. Meter's offer letters typically specify a start date, so align your school's approval timeline with that date to avoid gaps.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Technical Sales Engineer openings at Meter
Meter's sponsored roles don't always stay open long. Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa-sponsoring employers, so you can track Meter's openings in one place and apply before requisitions close.
Prepare for a technical screening before the sales conversation
Meter's interview process for this role typically tests network configuration knowledge before evaluating your ability to present a solution to a customer. Practicing lab scenarios with Meter's product documentation puts you ahead of candidates who only prepare sales pitches.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Meter sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Sales Engineers?
Meter's confirmed sponsorship for Technical Sales Engineer roles covers E-3 and F-1 OPT and CPT, not H-1B visa. If you're counting on H-1B sponsorship specifically, this role may not be the right fit. Australian citizens on E-3 status are the strongest candidates for sponsored employment here, given Meter's documented history with that visa category.
Which visa types does Meter typically use for Technical Sales Engineer roles?
Meter has sponsored E-3 and F-1 OPT and CPT visas for this role. E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and requires the employer to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL. F-1 OPT allows recent graduates to work without employer-sponsored paperwork initially, making it a common entry point before transitioning to a longer-term status.
What qualifications does Meter expect for a Technical Sales Engineer role?
Meter looks for candidates with a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, network engineering, or a related technical field, combined with customer-facing experience. Familiarity with enterprise networking products, particularly managed switches or access points, is a strong differentiator. Roles at Meter also expect you to own a territory and work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams.
How do I apply for Technical Sales Engineer jobs at Meter?
You can find active Technical Sales Engineer openings at Meter through Migrate Mate, which filters listings to show only roles at companies with a visa sponsorship track record. Apply directly through Meter's careers page and tailor your application to highlight both your networking technical background and any previous experience selling to IT or infrastructure buyers.
How do I plan my timeline if I'm on F-1 OPT and targeting this role?
Standard F-1 OPT gives you 12 months of work authorization after graduation. STEM OPT extension, if your degree qualifies, adds 24 months, giving you more runway to transition into a sponsored status like E-3 or H-1B later. Start your application to Meter at least three to four months before your OPT start date to allow time for the hiring process and any USCIS paperwork.
