Align Your Degree to MBI's Core Disciplines
Michael Baker International hires interns primarily in civil engineering, transportation planning, environmental science, and GIS. Framing your coursework and project experience around infrastructure or government contract work signals fit before your resume reaches a recruiter.
Confirm CPT Eligibility with Your DSO Early
If you're pursuing a summer internship on F-1 status, your Designated School Official must authorize CPT before your start date. Delays in DSO processing can disqualify an otherwise accepted offer, so initiate paperwork as soon as you receive confirmation.
Target MBI Offices Near Federal Contract Hubs
Michael Baker International operates heavily around federally funded infrastructure projects. Offices near Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, and regional DOT hubs tend to post intern roles tied to active contracts, which directly influences whether a position qualifies for OPT or leads to H-1B sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Intern Openings by Visa Type
Filtering for internship roles at Michael Baker International by visa sponsorship type saves significant research time. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsoring employers so you can identify which MBI roles have an active sponsorship track before applying.
Ask HR About H-1B Conversion Pathways During Interviews
Companies with established consulting practices often have structured OPT-to-H-1B pipelines for strong interns. Ask your recruiter directly whether intern-to-full-time conversions at MBI have historically proceeded through H-1B sponsorship, and get a clear answer before accepting an offer.
Track the H-1B Registration Window If You're Approaching OPT Limits
USCIS opens H-1B lottery registration each March for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October and MBI has confirmed intent to sponsor, work with HR to map out whether cap-gap protections or a bridge arrangement applies to your situation.

Find Intern at Michael Baker International JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Interns?
Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas, though sponsorship for intern roles specifically is typically tied to conversion from an internship into a full-time position. F-1 students completing an internship under OPT or CPT authorization are the most common path to H-1B consideration. If you're interning with the intent to convert, confirm the company's full-time hiring plans and H-1B sponsorship policy directly with HR before your internship ends.
How do I apply for Intern jobs at Michael Baker International?
Applications go through Michael Baker International's careers portal, where intern roles are listed by discipline and location. Migrate Mate also indexes their open intern positions filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify roles where sponsorship is confirmed. Apply early in the recruiting cycle, particularly for summer positions, as engineering and consulting firms fill intern cohorts well ahead of the start date.
Which visa types does Michael Baker International commonly use for Intern roles?
F-1 CPT and F-1 OPT are the most commonly used work authorization types for interns at companies like Michael Baker International, since they cover students during and immediately after their degree programs. For interns who transition to full-time roles, the company has a history of sponsoring H-1B, TN, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3, depending on the role and the candidate's background.
What qualifications does Michael Baker International expect from Intern candidates?
Michael Baker International's intern roles typically require active enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in civil engineering, environmental science, transportation planning, GIS, or a related field. Relevant coursework, design software proficiency such as AutoCAD or ArcGIS, and prior project or research experience strengthen an application. For visa-sponsored interns, the role must qualify as directly related to your field of study under F-1 CPT or OPT rules, which means degree-to-job alignment is both a hiring factor and a compliance requirement.
How do I time my application to align with MBI's intern recruiting cycle?
Most engineering and consulting firms recruit summer interns between September and January for the following year. Michael Baker International follows a similar pattern, with many roles posted in the fall recruiting season. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your work authorization dates align with the internship period and that your DSO can process CPT authorization in time. USCIS does not issue separate authorization for CPT; the approval comes entirely through your institution, so build in at least two to three weeks of processing buffer.
