INTRODUCTION
Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Principal Engineer within the HBM Quality Management Systems (QMS) team, you will help establish, scale, and govern quality execution for next-generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products, with a strong emphasis on precision in HBM design engineering and lifecycle governance. This foundational technical leadership position is centered on enabling disciplined, audit-ready execution across the HBM design engineering lifecycle—from architecture and design requirements through implementation, signoff, bring-up, and productization.
You will serve as the HBM design engineering authority for QMS, ensuring alignment to international quality and cybersecurity standards while driving modernization of quality practices tailored to HBM's system-level challenges. You will represent HBM Engineering in internal and external audits and work closely with HBM design engineering, validation, product engineering, and program teams to embed quality earlier in the development lifecycle ("shift left"), improving scalability, predictability, and tape-out/release confidence.
You bring the technical depth, operational accuracy, and leadership presence required to run elite QMS operations within HBM Design Engineering — and the influence to socialize future-ready quality solutions across Micron engineering organizations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining continuous audit readiness; represent HBM Design & Develop DRAM in external/internal audits (you will be the speaker for “HBM Design & Develop DRAM” at audits/assessments).
- Leading and improving Design QMS reviews, templates, and governance within the DataTrail system. Providing DataTrail project setup, signoff workflow management, and ongoing administration.
- Supporting SharePoint and EDC document repository setup aligned to audit and training compliance needs.
- Collaborating with TPG Workforce Development to report training compliance in support of audit readiness.
- Supporting JAMA requirements and datasheet traceability integration efforts.
- Through a comprehensive understanding of the Micron QMS, driving improvements both upstream and downstream of the HBM Design process (“shift left” approach).
- Maintaining the HBM Design & Develop QMS process maps and metrics in alignment with Design practices. Driving modernization of validation QMS processes, metrics, and reporting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in memory products, advanced semiconductor development, or system-level silicon programs.
- Strong experience with Quality Management Systems and audit execution.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, technically complex environment.
- Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with HBM, advanced memory products, or large-scale, multi-discipline engineering programs.
- Experience with requirements management, traceability systems, and QMS tooling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence across engineering organizations.

Align your portfolio with memory systems work
Micron's Principal Software Engineer roles often center on firmware, storage controllers, or DRAM/NAND platform software. Tailor your resume to show experience with low-level systems, embedded development, or memory subsystem architecture before you apply.
Target teams working on NAND and DRAM platforms
Micron hires at the Principal level across its storage and memory divisions. Identifying which product lines are actively staffing, such as SSDs or compute memory, helps you apply where senior software engineers are most in demand.
Confirm your visa category before the offer stage
Micron sponsors both H-1B and H-1B1 visas for engineering roles. If you hold an Australian or Chilean passport, clarifying H-1B1 eligibility early can simplify the filing process and avoid unnecessary lottery exposure during offer negotiations.
Prepare for prevailing wage documentation requirements
For H-1B filings, Micron's legal team will file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL. Having your official job title, level, and work location finalized before that filing begins prevents delays that can push back your start date.
Understand the PERM timeline if a Green Card is your goal
Micron sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for senior engineers. PERM labor certification typically takes 12 to 18 months before an I-140 petition can be filed, so raising this with your recruiting contact during the offer process sets realistic expectations.
Use Migrate Mate to find open roles efficiently
Principal-level roles at Micron that include visa sponsorship are not always labeled clearly in public job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Principal Software Engineer positions at Micron that are open to sponsored candidates, so you apply to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Micron Technology sponsor H-1B visas for Principal Software Engineers?
Yes, Micron Technology sponsors H-1B visas for Principal Software Engineers. Micron is an established H-1B sponsor in the semiconductor and electronics hardware industry, and Principal-level software engineering roles routinely qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria. If you're currently on H-1B with another employer, Micron can also file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as USCIS receives the petition.
How do I apply for Principal Software Engineer jobs at Micron Technology?
Apply directly through Micron's careers portal at careers.micron.com, where Principal Software Engineer openings are listed by product area and location. To find roles that explicitly include visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate filters Micron's open positions by sponsorship status so you're not wasting applications on roles where international candidates aren't considered. Tailor your application to highlight systems-level software experience relevant to Micron's memory and storage product lines.
Which visa types does Micron Technology use for Principal Software Engineer roles?
Micron sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and employment-based Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for Principal Software Engineers. H-1B is the most common path for applicants outside the H-1B1 eligible nationalities. Australian and Chilean citizens can pursue the H-1B1 as a cap-exempt alternative with no lottery. For long-term permanent residence, Micron supports PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for qualifying engineers.
What qualifications does Micron Technology expect for a Principal Software Engineer?
Principal Software Engineer roles at Micron typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, combined with substantial industry experience in systems software, firmware, or embedded development. Micron's product focus on NAND flash, DRAM, and SSD platforms means hands-on experience with memory subsystems, storage protocols such as NVMe or UFS, or low-level OS and driver development is a strong differentiator at this level.
How do I think about timing when Micron is sponsoring my H-1B?
If you need a new H-1B cap filing, Micron must submit your registration during the USCIS lottery window in March for an October 1 start date. That means your offer and onboarding timeline must align with that annual cycle. If you're transferring from an existing H-1B, timing is more flexible since transfers are cap-exempt. Either way, confirm visa strategy with Micron's HR team before accepting an offer so your start date reflects realistic USCIS processing timelines.
