Frame Your Portfolio Around Infrastructure Outcomes
Arcadis operates at the intersection of engineering and digital consulting, so highlight software work tied to infrastructure, asset management, or GIS platforms. Generic SaaS experience reads weaker than systems you've built for physical or civil environments.
Clarify Your Visa Category Before Applying
Arcadis sponsors several visa types, and the right category depends on your citizenship and current status. Confirm whether you need H-1B cap filing or qualify for TN or H-1B1 visa before your first recruiter screen to avoid late-stage confusion.
Request a Timeline Conversation During the Offer Stage
Principal-level roles at consulting firms often carry project start dates tied to client contracts. Ask your hiring contact directly how the LCA and I-129 filing schedule aligns with your intended start, especially if you're changing status from F-1 OPT.
Highlight Technical Leadership Across Cross-Functional Teams
Arcadis Principal Engineers are expected to lead delivery across engineering, product, and client stakeholder groups. Structure your resume to show decision-making authority, not just technical depth, since that distinction shapes whether you land at principal versus senior level.
Verify Your OPT STEM Extension Eligibility Early
If you're on F-1 OPT and targeting an H-1B cap filing in April, confirm with your DSO that your STEM extension covers you through October 1. USCIS requires status continuity, and a gap in OPT coverage can break your cap-gap protection.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Active Arcadis Openings

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Arcadis sponsor H-1B visas for Principal Software Engineers?
Yes, Arcadis sponsors H-1B visas for Principal Software Engineers. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery for new applicants and can also support cap-exempt filings in certain circumstances. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Arcadis can file an H-1B transfer petition, which takes effect as soon as USCIS receives it, allowing you to start work without waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Principal Software Engineer jobs at Arcadis?
Apply through Arcadis's careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to browse current Principal Software Engineer openings at Arcadis that are tagged for visa sponsorship. Tailor your application to emphasize technical leadership on large-scale or infrastructure-adjacent platforms, since Arcadis's consulting practice spans digital, GIS, and asset management domains. Reaching out to a recruiter directly after applying can accelerate the initial screen.
Which visa types does Arcadis commonly use for Principal Software Engineers?
Arcadis supports a range of visa categories for this role, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican citizens, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1 visa for qualifying exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM. The appropriate category depends on your nationality, educational background, and current immigration status.
What qualifications does Arcadis expect for a Principal Software Engineer?
Arcadis typically looks for engineers with substantial experience leading software architecture and delivery on enterprise-scale systems, often with exposure to infrastructure, environmental, or asset management domains. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field is standard for H-1B specialty occupation eligibility. At the principal level, demonstrated technical leadership, client-facing accountability, and the ability to mentor and direct engineering teams carry significant weight alongside hands-on technical skills.
How do I understand the sponsorship timeline for a Principal Software Engineer role at Arcadis?
Timeline depends heavily on your current visa status. H-1B transfers from another employer can start immediately upon USCIS receipt. New H-1B cap filings are subject to the annual lottery, with employment beginning October 1 at the earliest. TN status for Canadians can be obtained at the border within days. F-1 OPT holders should track their authorization end date against the cap-gap rule to ensure continuous work authorization through any gap between OPT expiration and H-1B activation.
