Align your degree to Olsson's specialty occupation standard
Olsson files H-1B petitions under specialty occupation requirements, meaning your degree must directly relate to the software engineering role. A computer science or engineering degree strengthens your petition. A business or unrelated degree may require documented equivalency evidence upfront.
Target Olsson's infrastructure and systems engineering openings
Olsson's software engineering work is embedded in large-scale consulting and infrastructure projects. Roles tied to specific client deliverables or technical systems tend to clear the specialty occupation threshold more cleanly than generalist postings, which matters when USCIS reviews your petition.
Browse Olsson's open Software Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Olsson posts Software Engineer positions across multiple locations and project types. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Olsson roles that align with your visa type and timeline, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
Confirm OPT or CPT authorization before your start date
If you're on F-1 status, your OPT authorization must be active before your first day at Olsson. USCIS processing for OPT cards can take several months, so apply through your DSO well ahead of your intended start date to avoid gaps.
Ask about H-1B cap timing during the offer stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with an October 1 start date. If Olsson extends an offer outside that window, clarify whether your role qualifies for cap-exempt status or whether you'll need to wait for the next filing cycle.
Document client project scope if your role is consulting-based
For consulting roles where you'll work at client sites, USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence asking for proof of employer-employee control and specific project details. Work with Olsson's HR team to gather client engagement letters and project timelines before filing.

Does Olsson sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Olsson sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. Because Olsson operates as a consulting firm, H-1B petitions for project-based positions may draw additional USCIS scrutiny around specialty occupation and employer control. Having a clear degree-to-role match and documented project scope strengthens the petition from the start.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Olsson?
You can browse and apply for Software Engineer positions at Olsson directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship is part of the hiring process. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific technical discipline the role requires, whether that's systems engineering, software infrastructure, or application development.
Which visa types does Olsson use for Software Engineer hires?
Olsson works with several visa categories for Software Engineer hires, including H-1B for full-time specialty occupation roles, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates in active training periods, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles, and J-1 for exchange visitor situations. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree, and where you are in your immigration timeline.
What qualifications does Olsson expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Olsson generally looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Because the company operates in consulting and infrastructure, practical experience with systems-level work, engineering tooling, or client-facing technical projects carries weight. Roles tied to specific technical disciplines have a cleaner path through USCIS specialty occupation review than broadly defined software generalist positions.
How do I time my application around H-1B filing deadlines?
The H-1B cap lottery registration opens in March each year, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. If you're targeting Olsson for a sponsored H-1B role, you'll want an offer in hand by late February or early March at the latest. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorized period covers the gap between your start date and when USCIS processes your petition.
