This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of hyperscale and mission-critical facility design, working on projects that demand innovation, precision, and technical excellence at unprecedented scale and speed.
This role is intentionally focused on electrical systems for the data center, the infrastructure that keeps mission-critical environments running 24/7. We are looking for an expert with deep experience in electrical design, including medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, and high-reliability system architecture. Key Responsibilities

- Shape and influence medium and low-voltage power distribution strategies, including campus distribution, switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, UPS systems, PDUs, RPPs, STS, and emergency power systems.
- Develop and guide electrical system architectures that support reliability, scalability, maintainability, and uptime requirements.
- Establish and support electrical design standards, basis of design narratives, and best practices across the data center practice.
- Lead and perform technical QA/QC reviews, ensuring designs meet the highest standards for constructability, performance, and code compliance (NEC, NFPA, IEEE).
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to align technical solutions with operational goals and redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N).
- Support commissioning and field efforts by resolving complex technical challenges and system interactions.
- Mentor and develop engineers, elevating technical capability across teams through guidance, review, and knowledge sharing.

You bring to the team:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 12+ years of electrical engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on data center or mission critical facility design.
- Demonstrated expertise in medium- and low-voltage systems within buildings, including redundancy strategies, power quality, and maintainability.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical efforts and serve as a trusted advisor to project teams and clients.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly translate complex technical concepts.
- A passion for technical excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement.

Align your credentials to Olsson's project types
Olsson's electrical work spans utility systems, site lighting, and infrastructure design. Tailor your resume to show project experience in these areas, not just general electrical engineering. Employers in consulting firms weigh project-type fit heavily when assessing sponsorship cases.
Pursue your EIT designation before applying
Olsson operates across multiple states where professional licensure progression matters. Having your Engineer-in-Training credential documented before you apply signals you're on the PE track, which strengthens your case both for hiring and for specialty occupation classification under H-1B.
Target Olsson's open roles using Migrate Mate
Olsson lists Electrical Engineer openings across multiple offices and project teams. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles at Olsson that are open to visa sponsorship candidates, so you're applying where your status won't be a barrier.
Confirm visa type eligibility before your offer stage
Olsson sponsors across several nonimmigrant categories including H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and J-1. If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN classification for engineers can move faster than H-1B. Clarify which category applies to your situation before negotiations start, not after.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
For H-1B petitions, USCIS requires evidence that the Electrical Engineer role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Gather your degree transcripts, any course equivalency evaluations, and a detailed job description from Olsson before the petition window opens.
Understand OPT cap-gap rules if your graduation overlaps
If you're on F-1 OPT when Olsson files your H-1B petition, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization through September 30 of that year. USCIS rules require your petition to be timely filed and properly receipted to maintain continuous employment eligibility.

Find Electrical Engineer at Olsson JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Olsson sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers?
Yes, Olsson sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Engineer roles. As a consulting firm with ongoing infrastructure and utility projects, Olsson has experience navigating the H-1B petition process for engineering staff. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a directly related field.
How do I apply for Electrical Engineer jobs at Olsson?
Applications go through Olsson's careers portal, where you can filter by discipline and location. Before applying, confirm the posting doesn't restrict candidates to those already authorized to work without sponsorship, as some roles specify this. Migrate Mate surfaces Olsson's Electrical Engineer openings filtered for sponsorship-eligible candidates, which removes that guesswork from your search.
Which visa types does Olsson use for Electrical Engineer hires?
Olsson sponsors across multiple visa categories for this role, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1. For Canadian and Mexican nationals, TN status is a practical option since it doesn't involve a lottery and can be obtained at the border or port of entry. H-1B remains the most common long-term path for non-TN eligible engineers.
What qualifications does Olsson expect for Electrical Engineer roles?
Olsson typically requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program. For project-facing roles, relevant experience in areas like power distribution, site utilities, or infrastructure design carries significant weight. Progression toward a Professional Engineer license is often expected for mid-level and senior positions, and having your EIT designation already in hand strengthens your application.
How do I time my application around the H-1B filing window?
H-1B registration opens in March each year, with a lottery conducted shortly after. If selected, your employer files the full petition between April and June, with an October 1 start date. To stay on track, have an offer letter from Olsson finalized by late February. If you're on OPT, your authorization can bridge the gap through September 30 under USCIS cap-gap rules if your petition is timely filed.
