Role Summary
The Quality Engineer is the technical architect of the site’s Quality Management System (QMS). You will ensure product integrity through rigorous process control, documentation authorship, and audit leadership. Acting as the "Quality Gatekeeper," you bridge the gap between engineering design, shop-floor execution, and the final customer to ensure all requirements are met.
Core Responsibilities
1. QMS, Documentation & Auditing
- Manuals & Procedures: Lead the development and implementation of the Quality Manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Work Instructions.
- Audit Leadership: Manage the internal audit schedule and serve as the primary point of contact for external registrar audits (e.g., ISO 9001) and customer technical assessments.
- Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs): Author and maintain ITPs for critical manufacturing stages, establishing rigorous stage-gate checkpoints from initial sub-assembly through final system integration.
- Calibration & Traceability: Manage the site-wide calibration program for all Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE). Ensure full material traceability from raw components to the finished product.
2. Technical Quality & Process Control
- Testing Validation: Oversee product validation and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure compliance with performance specifications.
- Special Process & Environment Control: Provide quality oversight for "special processes" (e.g., welding, coating, or specialized sealing). Maintain strict cleanliness and environmental standards (e.g., 5S) to prevent contamination during sensitive assembly phases.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead 8D or 5-Why investigations for internal rework and field failures. Drive permanent corrective actions to improve First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduce scrap rates.
- Risk Management: Utilize tools like PFMEA to identify potential failure modes in the manufacturing process and implement preventative controls.
3. Supplier & Customer Interface
- Supplier Quality Assurance: Audit and qualify vendors for critical components; monitor supplier performance and manage incoming material inspections.
- Customer Advocacy: Serve as the lead technical contact during customer witness testing; manage all quality-related documentation, deviations, and final sign-offs.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial).
- Experience: 3–5 years of quality engineering experience within a complex, heavy-industrial manufacturing environment.
- Standards: Familiarity with international quality and safety standards (e.g., ISO, IEEE, or IEC) relevant to high-performance infrastructure.
- Certifications: ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is highly preferred. Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a plus.
- Tools: Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
- Software: Experience with ERP systems (SAP/Oracle), statistical analysis software (Minitab), and document control platforms.

Tailor your resume to Sanmina's quality systems
Sanmina operates across printed circuit board assembly and complex electronics manufacturing. Highlight direct experience with IPC standards, AS9100 or ISO 9001 auditing, and defect analysis methods. Generic quality resumes get filtered before they reach a hiring manager.
Verify your OPT timing before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorization window against Sanmina's typical offer-to-start timeline. Electronics manufacturers often run multi-stage interviews and background checks, which can consume four to eight weeks before a start date is confirmed.
Search open Quality Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Sanmina posts Quality Engineer openings across multiple facilities. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles at Sanmina that align with your visa type, so you're targeting positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
Understand how PERM affects your timeline
If you're targeting a Green Card path through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process requires DOL to certify no qualified U.S. workers are available. For Quality Engineers, that means Sanmina must document recruitment efforts, which adds months before I-140 filing can begin.
Ask about site-specific sponsorship during the offer stage
Sanmina runs facilities across multiple states with different hiring managers and HR teams. Sponsorship decisions can vary by location, so confirm during the offer stage which facility will be your work location and whether that site has sponsored this role before.
Align your TN documentation to manufacturing quality roles
Canadian and Mexican nationals applying under TN status must demonstrate the role fits a qualifying USMCA occupation. For Quality Engineers at Sanmina, engineering credentials tied to electronics or manufacturing processes typically satisfy USCIS expectations, but your degree title and job duties must align clearly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sanmina sponsor H-1B visas for Quality Engineers?
Yes, Sanmina has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Quality Engineer roles. Because the H-1B cap opens in April each year and USCIS conducts a lottery when registrations exceed available slots, timing your job search and offer negotiation around the registration window matters. Roles in electronics manufacturing quality typically qualify as specialty occupations, which satisfies a core H-1B requirement.
How do I apply for Quality Engineer jobs at Sanmina?
Applications go through Sanmina's careers portal, where Quality Engineer openings are listed by facility and department. Before applying, review the job description carefully for technical requirements specific to electronics or hardware manufacturing, such as IPC standards or APQP experience. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate to confirm alignment before submitting.
Which visa types does Sanmina commonly use for Quality Engineer roles?
Sanmina supports several visa categories for Quality Engineers, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, F-1 OPT and CPT for students transitioning from academic programs, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, and J-1 visa for exchange visitors. For longer-term employment, Sanmina has also pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Sanmina typically expect for Quality Engineer roles?
Most Quality Engineer roles at Sanmina target candidates with a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering and experience in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001, defect root cause analysis, and supplier qualification processes is commonly listed. Roles closer to aerospace or defense contracts may also require AS9100 exposure or specific inspection certifications.
How do I plan my timeline if Sanmina is sponsoring my H-1B?
H-1B registration opens in March, with employment starting no earlier than October 1 of that year. If you receive an offer before registration closes, your employer submits a lottery registration on your behalf. Plan for the interview and offer process to conclude before early March to avoid missing the window. If you're currently on OPT, confirm your authorization covers the gap between your start date and H-1B approval.
