Align Your Degree to the Role
Sanmina's engineering positions typically require a degree in electrical, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering. Confirm your credentials directly match the job's specialty occupation requirement before applying, as a misaligned field of study is the most common H-1B petition complication.
Target Roles in High-Volume Facilities
Sanmina operates large manufacturing sites across the U.S., including in Texas, California, and South Carolina. Engineering openings tied to active production lines are more likely to carry sponsorship support than corporate overhead roles, so filter your search by facility type.
Get Your OPT or CPT Paperwork Current
If you're on F-1 status and interviewing at Sanmina, have your STEM OPT authorization ready before the offer stage. Electronics manufacturers move quickly through hiring cycles, and a delay in your work authorization paperwork can stall an otherwise approved offer.
Understand the LCA Before Your Offer
Before Sanmina can file your H-1B petition, DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application confirming your offered wage meets the prevailing rate for the role and location. Knowing this step exists helps you ask the right questions and set realistic start date expectations.
Find Open Engineering Roles on Migrate Mate
Sanmina posts Engineering roles across multiple locations at different times of year. Use Migrate Mate to filter for open positions that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you're applying to roles where the path forward is already established.
Position TN Status as a Bridge If Eligible
Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying disciplines can enter the U.S. on TN status, which Sanmina sponsors and which has no lottery or annual cap. If you're eligible, TN can get you working while a longer-term Green Card process through PERM gets underway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sanmina sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Sanmina sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Engineering roles. The process requires your position to meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field is a normal requirement for the role. Sanmina has sponsored H-1B petitions across engineering functions tied to its electronics manufacturing operations.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Sanmina?
You can search for open Engineering positions directly through Sanmina's careers site or use Migrate Mate to browse roles that include visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline listed, whether that's PCB design, manufacturing engineering, or systems integration, since Sanmina's teams are specialized by function and facility.
Which visa types does Sanmina commonly use for Engineering roles?
Sanmina supports several visa categories for Engineering hires, including H-1B, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, J-1 visa for exchange programs, and immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 through the PERM labor certification process for longer-term employment.
What qualifications does Sanmina expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Most sponsored Engineering roles at Sanmina require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical, mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. Roles in electronics manufacturing often value hands-on experience with PCB assembly, SMT processes, or quality systems. Advanced degrees can strengthen your case for H-1B specialty occupation classification and EB-2 immigrant petitions.
How do I plan my timeline around Sanmina's sponsorship process?
If you're targeting an H-1B, keep the April lottery registration window and October 1 cap-subject start date in mind when planning your offer timing. TN and OPT-based employment can start faster. For PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, USCIS and DOL processing typically spans one to three years, so starting conversations about long-term sponsorship early in your tenure matters.
