INTRODUCTION
Scale’s Robotics business unit is currently seeing historic levels of growth. As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) for Robotics Data, you will be the connective tissue across our most complex technical operations, driving initiatives that secure $XXM+ in new revenue. This isn't a "sit back and watch" project management role. You will work with multiple project leads across a vast portfolio of robotics data projects, ensuring technical milestones are met, dependencies are de-risked, and stakeholders are aligned. You should be prepared to wear many hats - from debugging hardware rigs to architecting data pipelines - and be excited about intense, impactful work that leads to accelerated career progression.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will:
- Drive Multi-Project Outcomes: Serve as the primary driver for a portfolio of robotics projects, tracking milestones, deliverables, and dependencies to ensure on-time delivery for the world’s leading AI researchers.
- Bridge the Technical-Operational Gap: Act as the central liaison between AI researchers, hardware engineers, and global operational teams to translate high-level research goals into executable data collection and annotation workflows.
- Architect Scalable Pipelines: Partner with engineering to design and optimize end-to-end data ingestion pipelines, ensuring they can handle the high-fidelity sensor data (video, logs, teleop) required for Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models.
- Manage Hardware & Logistics: Coordinate the setup, maintenance, and scaling of physical robotic platforms and data collection rigs across multiple sites.
- Enforce Data Quality & Governance: Define KPIs and Quality Assurance (QA) metrics to ensure datasets are high-fidelity, labeled correctly, and compliant with rigorous privacy and safety standards.
- Standardize for Scale: Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that allow us to scale collection and annotation efforts across global, distributed teams.
- Communicate with Precision: Provide regular, data-driven progress updates to Scale’s executive team, utilizing SQL and dashboards to monitor performance and guide strategic pivots.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong Technical Foundation: A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, combined with a deep understanding of the AI/ML data lifecycle.
- 2-3+ Years of TPM Experience: Proven track record of managing complex, cross-functional technical programs, ideally in robotics, hardware, or large-scale data operations.
- Hands-on Problem Solving Skills: A proactive approach to overcoming technical and logistical roadblocks in a fast-paced environment.
- Operational Grit: Experience "in the weeds" of operational challenges - you don’t just identify bottlenecks; you build the solution to clear them.
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: You are comfortable with ambiguity and excited about building infrastructure from scratch in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- SQL Proficiency: Ability to pull your own data and build your own tracking dashboards.
- Global Experience: Experience interacting with distributed teams or collection sites across different time zones.
- Robotics Domain Expertise: Familiarity with robotic hardware, sensor calibration, or the nuances of collecting data for Physical AI.
- AI/CV Knowledge: Familiarity with Computer Vision or Large Language Model (LLM) training requirements.

Frame your credentials around AI program delivery
Scale AI's program manager roles require demonstrable experience owning end-to-end AI or ML data pipelines, not just general project management. Gather documentation showing you've led technical programs at scale before you apply.
Target roles aligned with your visa category
Scale AI sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT, so knowing which category applies to your nationality shapes which roles and timelines are realistic. Australian citizens on E-3 avoid the H-1B lottery entirely, which can compress your start date significantly.
Flag your authorization status early in outreach
Scale AI's recruiting process moves quickly. Disclosing your visa type during the initial screen prevents late-stage complications and signals you understand the sponsorship process, which program manager hiring managers read as operational maturity.
Build your job search around verified sponsors
Search DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to confirm Scale AI has filed for AI Program Manager roles under the relevant SOC code before you invest time in the application. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by employer and visa type in one step.
Negotiate offer timing around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, the USCIS registration window opens in March for an October 1 start. Work backward from that date when discussing start dates with Scale AI's recruiting team so your offer timeline is realistic.
Use OPT STEM extension to buy runway before H-1B
F-1 graduates hired by E-Verify employers like Scale AI can apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you three full lottery cycles. File the extension with your Designated School Official at least 90 days before your initial OPT expires.

Find AI Program Manager at Scale AI JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Scale AI sponsor H-1B visas for AI Program Managers?
Yes, Scale AI sponsors H-1B visas for AI Program Manager roles. The company participates in the annual USCIS H-1B cap registration process, so candidates who need cap-subject sponsorship must align their offer and start date with the April lottery and October 1 fiscal year start. Scale AI is an E-Verify employer, which is a prerequisite for sponsoring H-1B transfers and STEM OPT extensions.
Which visa types are commonly used for AI Program Manager roles at Scale AI?
Scale AI sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for this role. Australian citizens typically pursue the E-3, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewable periods. Canadian and Mexican nationals often use TN status under the USMCA professional categories. F-1 graduates on OPT are common entry points before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does Scale AI expect for AI Program Manager candidates?
Scale AI generally looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, combined with hands-on experience managing AI or data operations programs. Familiarity with large-scale data labeling workflows, vendor or contractor coordination, and cross-functional stakeholder management in a technology environment strengthens your application considerably.
How do I apply for AI Program Manager jobs at Scale AI?
You can browse and apply for AI Program Manager positions at Scale AI through Migrate Mate, which filters open roles by employer and visa sponsorship type so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. Apply directly through Scale AI's careers portal, tailor your resume to highlight AI program delivery experience, and disclose your visa category during the initial recruiter screen to keep the process moving efficiently.
How do I time my application if I need H-1B sponsorship at Scale AI?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. If you receive an offer that requires cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, your practical start date is October 1 at the earliest. Discuss this constraint with Scale AI's recruiting team upfront. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, a STEM extension keeps you authorized while you wait for lottery selection and USCIS approval.
