INTRODUCTION
Scale’s Robotics business unit is currently seeing historic levels of growth. As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) for Robotics Data, you will be the connective tissue across our most complex technical operations, driving initiatives that secure $XXM+ in new revenue. This isn't a "sit back and watch" project management role. You will work with multiple project leads across a vast portfolio of robotics data projects, ensuring technical milestones are met, dependencies are de-risked, and stakeholders are aligned. You should be prepared to wear many hats - from debugging hardware rigs to architecting data pipelines - and be excited about intense, impactful work that leads to accelerated career progression.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will:
- Drive Multi-Project Outcomes: Serve as the primary driver for a portfolio of robotics projects, tracking milestones, deliverables, and dependencies to ensure on-time delivery for the world’s leading AI researchers.
- Bridge the Technical-Operational Gap: Act as the central liaison between AI researchers, hardware engineers, and global operational teams to translate high-level research goals into executable data collection and annotation workflows.
- Architect Scalable Pipelines: Partner with engineering to design and optimize end-to-end data ingestion pipelines, ensuring they can handle the high-fidelity sensor data (video, logs, teleop) required for Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models.
- Manage Hardware & Logistics: Coordinate the setup, maintenance, and scaling of physical robotic platforms and data collection rigs across multiple sites.
- Enforce Data Quality & Governance: Define KPIs and Quality Assurance (QA) metrics to ensure datasets are high-fidelity, labeled correctly, and compliant with rigorous privacy and safety standards.
- Standardize for Scale: Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that allow us to scale collection and annotation efforts across global, distributed teams.
- Communicate with Precision: Provide regular, data-driven progress updates to Scale’s executive team, utilizing SQL and dashboards to monitor performance and guide strategic pivots.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong Technical Foundation: A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, combined with a deep understanding of the AI/ML data lifecycle.
- 2-3+ Years of TPM Experience: Proven track record of managing complex, cross-functional technical programs, ideally in robotics, hardware, or large-scale data operations.
- Hands-on Problem Solving Skills: A proactive approach to overcoming technical and logistical roadblocks in a fast-paced environment.
- Operational Grit: Experience "in the weeds" of operational challenges - you don’t just identify bottlenecks; you build the solution to clear them.
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: You are comfortable with ambiguity and excited about building infrastructure from scratch in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- SQL Proficiency: Ability to pull your own data and build your own tracking dashboards.
- Global Experience: Experience interacting with distributed teams or collection sites across different time zones.
- Robotics Domain Expertise: Familiarity with robotic hardware, sensor calibration, or the nuances of collecting data for Physical AI.
- AI/CV Knowledge: Familiarity with Computer Vision or Large Language Model (LLM) training requirements.

Frame your PM credentials around AI workflows
Scale AI hires Program Managers to own operational pipelines for AI training data and model evaluation. Tailor your resume to show experience managing technically complex, data-heavy programs, not just cross-functional coordination or software delivery.
Verify your visa type matches the role
Scale AI sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT among others. Before applying, confirm your current status is on their supported list and that your role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines, which Program Manager positions typically do when tied to technical operations.
Time your OPT application around Scale AI's hiring cycles
If you're on F-1 OPT, your 60-day grace period leaves little margin for delays. Target Scale AI's Program Manager openings at least three months before your OPT end date so there's runway for onboarding and, if needed, an H-1B cap-subject filing in April.
Use Migrate Mate to filter live Program Manager openings
Sponsorship-confirmed Program Manager roles at Scale AI don't always stay posted long. Use Migrate Mate to filter active listings by visa type so you're applying to roles where your work authorization is explicitly supported, not guessing from a generic job description.
Prepare for a structured hiring process with multiple stakeholders
Scale AI's Program Manager interviews typically involve cross-functional panels from engineering, operations, and product. Document specific programs you've owned end-to-end, with measurable outcomes, since interviewers will probe depth of ownership rather than breadth of involvement.
Confirm LCA filing timelines with your recruiter early
Once you have an offer, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B or E-3 petition can proceed. Ask your Scale AI recruiter during the offer stage which visa they intend to file so you can track the LCA certification window accurately.

Find Program Manager at Scale AI JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Scale AI sponsor H-1B visas for Program Managers?
Yes, Scale AI sponsors H-1B visas for Program Manager roles. Program Manager positions at Scale AI are generally structured as specialty occupation roles tied to AI data operations or technical program execution, which satisfies USCIS requirements for H-1B eligibility. Your employer handles the Labor Condition Application with the DOL and the I-129 petition with USCIS, but confirm the timeline with your recruiter early since cap-subject H-1B filings follow a fixed April window.
How do I apply for Program Manager jobs at Scale AI?
Applications go through Scale AI's careers page, where Program Manager openings are listed with role-specific requirements. You can also browse sponsorship-confirmed Program Manager roles at Scale AI through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you can identify positions where your work authorization is supported before you apply. Tailor your application to highlight ownership of technically complex, cross-functional programs relevant to AI or data operations.
Which visa types does Scale AI commonly use for Program Manager roles?
Scale AI sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Program Manager positions. Australian citizens should note the E-3 as a strong alternative to the H-1B since it has no lottery. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Program Manager roles may be eligible for TN status. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree field, and the specific role structure.
What qualifications does Scale AI expect for Program Manager roles?
Scale AI typically looks for Program Managers with experience running complex, multi-team programs in technical environments, ideally in AI, machine learning infrastructure, or data operations. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, engineering, or operations management is standard. Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, work across engineering and research teams, and deliver measurable program outcomes carries more weight than project management certifications alone.
How do I think about visa sponsorship timelines when targeting Scale AI?
Timeline depends heavily on your visa type. E-3 and TN visas can move quickly, often within a few weeks once your offer is finalized and the LCA is certified by the DOL. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow USCIS's April filing window, meaning a role starting before October 1 of the same year isn't feasible unless you're cap-exempt. F-1 OPT candidates should account for their remaining authorized work period and confirm Scale AI's intended filing path before accepting an offer.
