INTRODUCTION
At Snowflake, we are powering the era of the agentic enterprise. To usher in this new era, we seek AI-native thinkers across every function who are energized by the opportunity to reinvent how they work. You don’t just use tools; you possess an innate curiosity, treating AI as a high-trust collaborator that is core to how you solve problems and accelerate your impact. We look for low-ego individuals who thrive in dynamic and fast-moving environments and move with an experimental mindset — who rapidly test emerging capabilities to discover simpler, more powerful ways to deliver results. At Snowflake, your role isn't just to execute a function, but to help redefine the future of how work gets done.
We’re looking for a Senior Manager to lead our App Experience & Marketplace Data Science team in the Product organization.
You will lead a team covering app experience (UI, growth platform, analyst/admin/data engineer tools and experience) and data marketplace areas.
- Well designed high value apps are essential to make it simple for our customers to complete billions of SQL queries, deploy python, and use powerful AI tools every day.
- Data marketplace makes it easy with a click of a button to get access to a wide range of 3rd party data instead of having to contact a sales representative at a data vendor and setup and maintain a complex API.
All the projects above allow the data scientist to work on very large datasets, and a variety of diverse interesting projects that span the domains of data engineering, analytics, statistics, and machine learning.
In this role, you will both lead a team, and be hands-on as a tech lead in this area. The manager will interact frequently with senior management, product managers, and engineering managers. The ability to effectively communicate complex technical ideas to a wide audience is crucial.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Serve as the tech lead/manager of a Data Science team in the Product organization, leveraging AI tools and functions (e.g., Cortex AI functions, Agents, CoCo) to accelerate product development and data-driven decision-making.
- Mentor team members in core DS disciplines and on the effective and governed use of generative AI tools, including establishing AI best practices and guardrails.
- Drive the team's focus toward AI-native deliverables, such as building out Agentic services, semantic views, and conducting AI evaluation for new product features, strategically shifting away from automatable work.
- Be hands-on by serving as the primary data scientist on projects, specifically focusing on validating the accuracy and output quality of AI-powered analysis and developing POCs for new AI-driven product features.
- Partner with technical and business stakeholders to not only come up with solutions to stated problems, but encourage and enable the team to develop bottoms up ideas.
- Maximize the impact of the team, by making sure the data scientists have the best and correct context, and ensuring their skill sets are properly matched to the project.
- Grow the team, when appropriate. Convince job candidates on why Snowflake, and the product data science team is an awesome place to work.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters or PhD in Math/Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Science or related quantitative field.
- 10+ years experience as a Data Scientist.
- 5+ years of experience in building, managing, and leading a high-performing data science team.
- Experience in using data science to optimize the user experience.
- Expert in SQL and Python.
- Demonstrated experience with internal AI tools to build scalable data pipelines and drive analytical workflows.
- Advanced knowledge/experience in machine learning and Large Language Models (LLMs), including the ability to critically evaluate and validate AI/ML outputs (e.g., using AI evaluation methods and understanding the limitations of AI Functions).
- Ability to communicate and influence complex ideas to cross-functional stakeholders.
Every Snowflake employee is expected to follow the company’s confidentiality and security standards for handling sensitive data. Snowflake employees must abide by the company’s data security plan as an essential part of their duties. It is every employee's duty to keep customer information secure and confidential.
Snowflake is growing fast, and we’re scaling our team to help enable and accelerate our growth. We are looking for people who share our values, challenge ordinary thinking, and push the pace of innovation while building a future for themselves and Snowflake.
COMPENSATION
The following represents the expected range of compensation for this role:
- The estimated base salary range for this role is $227,000 - $326,600.
- Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Snowflake’s bonus and equity plan.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location. This role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; flexible spending & health savings account; at least 12 paid holidays; paid time off; parental leave; employee assistance program; and other company benefits.

Align your portfolio with Snowflake's stack
Snowflake's Data Engineer roles lean heavily on SQL, dbt, and cloud-native pipeline tooling. Before applying, make sure your portfolio projects demonstrate hands-on work with these specifically, not just generic ETL experience or on-premise data warehousing.
Target roles flagged for international hiring
Snowflake posts Data Engineer roles across multiple offices. Filter for positions in locations where Snowflake has filed LCAs with the DOL previously, as those offices have established sponsorship workflows and move faster through the H-1B petition process.
Search open Data Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Snowflake's Data Engineer openings by visa type. This surfaces roles where sponsorship is confirmed, saving you time spent applying to positions that won't support your immigration status.
Clarify your status before the offer stage
When a recruiter screens you, name your visa type and remaining authorized work period upfront. For F-1 OPT students, the 60-day grace period after employment ends is unforgiving, so Snowflake's recruiting team needs lead time to initiate petitions without gaps in your status.
Understand the H-1B cap lottery timing
If you need a new H-1B, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Snowflake's hiring cycles for technical roles often run year-round, so time your active applications to ensure an offer can realistically align with the next available cap season.
Get your credentials evaluated before interviews
Snowflake's technical bar for Data Engineers expects a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation completed in advance so your petition for a specialty occupation role isn't delayed after an offer is extended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Snowflake sponsor H-1B visas for Data Engineers?
Yes. Snowflake sponsors H-1B visas for Data Engineer roles and has done so consistently across its engineering and data functions. If you're on OPT or an expiring visa, you'll want to raise your immigration status early in the recruiting process so the team can plan the petition timeline around USCIS's April filing window and October 1 cap-subject start date.
How do I apply for Data Engineer jobs at Snowflake?
Applications go through Snowflake's careers portal. For international candidates, Migrate Mate is the most direct way to browse Snowflake's Data Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you're only looking at roles where your status is supported. Tailor your resume to reflect Snowflake's core stack, including SQL, dbt, and cloud data pipeline experience, before submitting.
Which visa types does Snowflake commonly sponsor for Data Engineer roles?
Snowflake sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Data Engineer positions. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles. Green Card sponsorship typically follows a period of H-1B employment and involves PERM labor certification filed with the DOL.
What qualifications does Snowflake expect for Data Engineer roles?
Snowflake's Data Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field, combined with hands-on experience building data pipelines and working with cloud platforms. For H-1B purposes, USCIS classifies Data Engineer as a specialty occupation requiring a specific degree nexus, so a generalist background without a relevant degree can complicate the petition.
How do I manage the timing between a Snowflake offer and my visa filing?
For cap-subject H-1B cases, your start date can't be earlier than October 1 of the fiscal year USCIS approves your petition. If Snowflake extends an offer outside that window, you'll work on OPT or another authorized status until the H-1B takes effect. Premium processing, which USCIS offers for an additional fee, can reduce the approval wait to roughly 15 business days and gives both you and Snowflake more certainty on timing.
