Frame your operations experience in U.S. terms
Sweetgreen evaluates General Managers on P&L ownership, team development, and throughput metrics. If your background is international, translate your experience into those specific outcomes before applying, since hiring managers screen for familiarity with U.S. fast-casual operational standards.
Target locations in Sweetgreen's expansion markets
Sweetgreen is actively opening locations in newer metro markets. Applying to roles in high-growth regions increases your odds of landing a position where the company is actively building leadership pipelines and may be more willing to invest in sponsorship.
Search General Manager openings using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship history, so you can surface Sweetgreen General Manager roles where sponsorship has previously occurred and prioritize those applications over postings with no sponsorship track record.
Understand that EB-2 and EB-3 require PERM labor certification
Sweetgreen's sponsorship for General Managers runs through the PERM process, which requires DOL to certify that no qualified U.S. worker was available. That process typically takes 12 to 18 months before your immigrant visa petition is even filed.
Confirm sponsorship intent before accepting an offer
Food and beverage employers sometimes make General Manager offers without having an immigration policy in place. Ask directly during the offer stage whether Sweetgreen's HR team has worked with outside immigration counsel and what the expected sponsorship timeline looks like for your role.
Build tenure before expecting Green Card sponsorship
Sweetgreen is more likely to initiate a PERM case for a General Manager who has demonstrated performance across at least one full review cycle. Joining as an Assistant General Manager first, then being promoted, gives you documented company tenure that strengthens the employer's business justification.

Find General Manager at Sweetgreen JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sweetgreen sponsor H-1B visas for General Managers?
Sweetgreen's documented sponsorship for General Manager roles has been through employment-based Green Card pathways, specifically EB-2 and EB-3, rather than H-1B. General Manager positions in the food and beverage industry are typically classified as management roles rather than specialty occupations, which is the standard H-1B requirement. If you're currently on an H-1B through a different employer, consult an immigration attorney about transferability before applying.
Which visa types are commonly used for General Manager roles at Sweetgreen?
Sweetgreen has sponsored General Managers through EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories, both of which lead to a Green Card. EB-3 is the more common path for operations-focused management roles and requires PERM labor certification through the DOL. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree or exceptional ability. Both categories involve multi-stage processes that your employer initiates and manages on your behalf.
What qualifications does Sweetgreen expect from General Manager candidates?
Sweetgreen General Manager candidates are typically expected to have prior experience running a high-volume food service location, with demonstrated responsibility for team leadership, scheduling, and financial performance. Familiarity with fast-casual or quick-service restaurant operations is a strong differentiator. Since PERM requires documenting minimum job requirements, whatever qualifications appear in the posted job description will also anchor your sponsorship case with the DOL.
How do I apply for General Manager jobs at Sweetgreen?
Applications go through Sweetgreen's careers page, where General Manager roles are posted by location. To find openings where sponsorship has previously been offered, use Migrate Mate to filter Sweetgreen listings by visa sponsorship history. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect P&L management, team development metrics, and throughput performance, which are the operational competencies Sweetgreen's hiring team screens for in General Manager candidates.
How do I plan my timeline if Sweetgreen agrees to sponsor my Green Card?
The process typically begins with PERM labor certification filed with the DOL, which can take 12 to 18 months. Once certified, your employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Depending on your country of birth and the visa priority date backlog, you may wait additional years before a Green Card becomes available. Starting this process as early as possible in your employment is essential, particularly if you're from a country with long priority date queues.
