Tailor your resume to biomedical and facilities standards
UTMB's Service Tech openings often require documented experience with specific systems like HVAC, medical gas lines, or diagnostic equipment. List certifications like EPA 608 or OSHA 10 explicitly so hiring managers can match your background to their compliance requirements.
Verify your OPT or CPT eligibility before applying
F-1 students targeting UTMB should confirm their STEM OPT extension applies to their field before submitting applications. Academic medical centers routinely accept OPT but expect your Designated School Official authorization to be current before your start date.
Target UTMB's facilities and biomedical engineering departments directly
Service Tech roles at a large academic health system like UTMB are often posted across multiple departments. Filtering by department rather than job title surfaces openings that generalist searches miss, especially in clinical engineering and plant operations.
Browse open Service Tech roles using Migrate Mate
Search for Service Tech positions at UTMB on Migrate Mate to find roles filtered by visa sponsorship type. This saves time by surfacing only positions where H-1B or TN sponsorship has been confirmed through actual filings.
Clarify TN eligibility if you hold a Canadian or Mexican degree
TN status covers certain engineering and technical occupations under USMCA. If your role qualifies, UTMB can support TN classification without the H-1B lottery. Confirm with the hiring team that your specific Service Tech title maps to an approved TN occupation category before accepting an offer.
Align your H-1B petition timeline with UTMB's HR filing calendar
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed with USCIS by April 1 for an October 1 start. Coordinate with UTMB's international employment team well before March so LCA certification through DOL and internal approvals don't compress your filing window.

Find Service Tech at University of Texas Medical Branch JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Texas Medical Branch sponsor H-1B visas for Service Techs?
Yes, University of Texas Medical Branch sponsors H-1B visas for Service Tech roles that qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria. Because UTMB is a public research university and hospital system, it may qualify as a cap-exempt employer, which means H-1B petitions can be filed outside the annual lottery window. Confirm this status directly with UTMB's international employment office when you receive an offer.
How do I apply for Service Tech jobs at University of Texas Medical Branch?
Applications go through UTMB's official careers portal. Search for Service Tech or related titles under facilities, clinical engineering, or biomedical departments. Attach documentation of relevant certifications alongside your resume. If you need visa sponsorship, flag that in your application or early in the recruiter screening so UTMB's HR team can loop in their international employment staff from the start.
Which visa types does University of Texas Medical Branch commonly use for Service Tech roles?
UTMB sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying specialty occupation roles and supports F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for students in relevant technical programs. TN classification is also an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose Service Tech role maps to an approved USMCA occupation category. The right visa type depends on your nationality, degree field, and how UTMB classifies the specific position.
What qualifications does UTMB expect for Service Tech candidates who need sponsorship?
UTMB typically expects a relevant associate's or bachelor's degree, or equivalent technical training, alongside hands-on experience with the systems the role covers, such as HVAC, electrical, or biomedical equipment. Industry certifications like EPA 608, OSHA 10, or CBET strengthen your application. For H-1B eligibility specifically, USCIS requires the role to meet specialty occupation standards, so your degree field should align directly with the job duties.
How do I find Service Tech openings at UTMB that confirm visa sponsorship?
Standard job boards don't filter by actual sponsorship history, which makes it hard to know whether a posting will support your visa. Migrate Mate aggregates Service Tech roles at employers like UTMB and filters them by confirmed sponsorship types, so you can target positions where H-1B, OPT, or TN support has been documented through real filing data rather than relying on vague job description language.
