Credential Your Clinical Hours Before Applying
UTMB hiring teams for Clinical Medical Assistant roles prioritize candidates with verified hands-on experience. Get your clinical hours documented and certified before you apply, since academic medical centers move quickly and expect credentials ready at the offer stage.
Target UTMB Departments That Hire Repeatedly
UTMB runs a large outpatient and specialty clinic network across Galveston and its regional campuses. Focus your applications on departments like internal medicine and urgent care, where Clinical Medical Assistant hiring is ongoing rather than seasonal or project-based.
Find Open UTMB Clinical Roles Through Migrate Mate
Filtering for Clinical Medical Assistant openings at institutions with active visa sponsorship saves significant time. Use Migrate Mate to surface UTMB's current job postings filtered by visa type so you're only applying where sponsorship is on the table.
Align Your OPT Start Date With UTMB Onboarding Cycles
Academic medical centers like UTMB typically onboard clinical staff on fixed cycles tied to department scheduling. If you're on F-1 OPT, time your application so your available start date falls within their next onboarding window, reducing delays that can eat into your OPT window.
Confirm LCA Filing Before Signing Your Offer
For H-1B sponsorship, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your petition to USCIS. Ask UTMB's HR or immigration office whether the LCA has been initiated before you accept, so you're clear on the filing timeline.
Use TN Status If You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
Clinical Medical Assistant roles can qualify under the TN visa category for Canadian and Mexican nationals. TN status requires no USCIS petition and is processed at the port of entry or a U.S. consulate, making it one of the fastest paths to starting work at UTMB.

Find Clinical Medical Assistant at University of Texas Medical Branch JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Texas Medical Branch sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Medical Assistants?
Yes, UTMB sponsors H-1B visas for Clinical Medical Assistant roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. As a large public academic medical institution, UTMB has an established immigration infrastructure and works with candidates who need H-1B support. You should confirm sponsorship intent directly with the hiring department during the interview process, as not every open role may be approved for sponsorship at the time of posting.
How do I apply for Clinical Medical Assistant jobs at University of Texas Medical Branch?
Applications go through UTMB's official careers portal, where Clinical Medical Assistant positions are listed by department and location. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse UTMB's open roles filtered specifically for visa-sponsoring positions, which helps you prioritize applications where international candidates are actively considered. Tailor your resume to highlight clinical certifications and any prior experience in academic or hospital-based clinical environments.
Which visa types does University of Texas Medical Branch commonly use for Clinical Medical Assistant roles?
UTMB supports several visa categories for Clinical Medical Assistants, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for students completing clinical programs, while TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations. H-1B sponsorship is the standard long-term path for candidates who need ongoing work authorization beyond their initial status.
What qualifications does UTMB expect for Clinical Medical Assistant positions?
UTMB typically looks for candidates with a Clinical Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program, hands-on clinical hours, and familiarity with electronic health record systems. Academic medical centers prioritize candidates who can operate in high-volume outpatient settings. Prior experience in a hospital or university-affiliated clinic is a strong differentiator, particularly for roles tied to specialty departments where patient throughput and documentation standards are demanding.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a UTMB Clinical Medical Assistant role?
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply at least two to three months before your OPT expires to give UTMB time to process an H-1B petition. H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so offers made in the spring are the most viable for cap-subject candidates. TN candidates can move faster since processing happens at the border or consulate without a USCIS petition queue.
