Verify your credentials match Pennsylvania requirements
Pennsylvania requires Advanced Practice Providers to hold specific state licensure before starting work. Confirm your NP, PA, or CRNA credentials are transferable or obtainable in Pennsylvania before applying, since WellSpan's sponsorship process depends on you being independently licensable.
Target WellSpan's underserved regional sites first
WellSpan operates facilities across York, Adams, and Lancaster counties, including rural and community sites that face persistent APP shortages. Roles in these locations often move faster through the offer and sponsorship pipeline than positions at flagship urban hospitals.
Use Migrate Mate to filter WellSpan APP openings by visa type
WellSpan sponsors multiple visa categories for Advanced Practice Providers, and not every open role is posted with sponsorship details. Use Migrate Mate to filter WellSpan's current APP listings by the visa type relevant to your situation, saving time on applications unlikely to lead to sponsorship.
Ask HR whether your specialty needs PERM or H-1B
Some APP specialties at health systems like WellSpan qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM, while others are filled on H-1B. Clarifying this early in the offer stage prevents surprises, since PERM timelines through DOL run significantly longer than H-1B approval.
Prepare a J-1 waiver strategy before interviewing
If you completed a J-1 exchange program, the two-year home residency requirement blocks H-1B sponsorship unless you obtain a waiver. WellSpan serves Health Professional Shortage Areas, which can support Conrad 30 waiver applications, but you need to raise this before an offer is extended.
Align your CV format to U.S. clinical documentation standards
WellSpan's credentialing team reviews APP applications using U.S. clinical CV conventions, not international CV formats. List your clinical hours, patient volume, procedural competencies, and any DEA registration eligibility explicitly. Missing these details delays credentialing even after visa sponsorship is agreed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WellSpan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Advanced Practice Providers?
Yes, WellSpan Health sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Advanced Practice Provider roles. Advanced Practice Providers typically qualify as specialty occupation workers under USCIS criteria given the graduate-level degree requirements for NP, PA, and CRNA licensure. Sponsorship is generally initiated after a conditional offer, with WellSpan's HR and legal teams managing the I-129 petition filing process with USCIS.
How do I apply for Advanced Practice Provider jobs at WellSpan Health?
You can browse and apply for WellSpan Health's Advanced Practice Provider openings directly through their careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which surfaces WellSpan APP roles filtered by visa sponsorship type. When applying, note your work authorization status on the application and follow up directly with WellSpan's talent acquisition team if you have questions about sponsorship eligibility for a specific role.
Which visa types does WellSpan Health commonly use for Advanced Practice Providers?
WellSpan Health sponsors H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Advanced Practice Provider roles. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican APP professionals whose specialty appears on the USMCA list. Green Card sponsorship through PERM is more common for permanent hires in high-need specialties and locations within WellSpan's regional network.
What qualifications does WellSpan Health expect for Advanced Practice Provider roles?
WellSpan generally requires a graduate-level clinical degree appropriate to the APP role, such as a Master of Science in Nursing or a Master of Physician Assistant Studies, plus current or eligible Pennsylvania state licensure. Board certification from a recognized body such as AANP, NCCPA, or NBCRNA is typically required before your start date. Prior acute care or specialty experience may be required depending on the specific clinical service line.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Advanced Practice Provider at WellSpan Health?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B standard processing through USCIS can take three to six months, while premium processing reduces this to 15 business days. If WellSpan pursues Green Card sponsorship through PERM, the DOL labor certification stage alone can take one to two years before an I-140 petition is filed. Starting conversations about sponsorship type and timeline at the offer stage prevents delays in your actual start date.
