Align Your Credentials Before Applying
Rush requires state licensure and national certification for APP roles before a visa petition can proceed. Confirm your NP, PA, or CRNA credentials are transferable to Illinois and that your foreign degree has been evaluated by a NACES-approved agency.
Target Departments With Recurring APP Needs
Oncology, cardiovascular services, and surgical specialties at Rush consistently post APP openings. Focusing your applications on high-volume clinical units increases your odds of landing a role where sponsorship has already been approved at the departmental level.
Understand the LCA Filing Requirement
Rush must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. This step certifies your offered wage meets prevailing levels for your specialty and location. It typically adds two to four weeks to the overall timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Open APP Roles
Search Migrate Mate to filter Advanced Practice Provider openings at Rush University Medical Center by visa type. This lets you focus only on roles where sponsorship is actively available, rather than cold-applying and asking about immigration support after the fact.
Plan Around Cap and Lottery Deadlines for H-1B
If you need an H-1B and are not already in a cap-exempt status, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Rush's academic medical center status may qualify certain positions as cap-exempt, so clarify this with the HR team early.

Find Advanced Practice Provider at Rush University Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Rush University Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Advanced Practice Providers?
Yes, Rush University Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for Advanced Practice Provider roles. As an academic medical center, Rush may qualify as a cap-exempt institution for certain positions, which means eligible candidates can file outside the annual lottery window. Confirm cap-exempt status with the recruiting team for your specific role and department before assuming it applies.
How do I apply for Advanced Practice Provider jobs at Rush University Medical Center?
Applications are submitted through Rush's careers portal. Before applying, verify your Illinois licensure status and national certification are current or in progress, as Rush typically requires both before extending an offer. You can also browse open APP roles filtered by visa sponsorship availability on Migrate Mate, which helps you prioritize positions where immigration support is confirmed.
Which visa types does Rush University Medical Center commonly use for Advanced Practice Provider roles?
Rush has sponsored H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Advanced Practice Providers, as well as employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying APP occupations. J-1 is common for fellowship-level roles. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and the specific position.
What qualifications does Rush expect for Advanced Practice Provider candidates seeking sponsorship?
Rush generally requires a master's degree or higher for NP and CNS roles, and a master's from an accredited PA program for physician assistants. National certification through AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA is standard. Foreign-educated candidates should have their credentials evaluated by a NACES-approved agency. Clinical experience in a specialty relevant to the posted role strengthens your application significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for an APP role at Rush?
Timeline depends on visa type. For H-1B, the DOL Labor Condition Application takes two to four weeks, followed by USCIS processing of four to six months standard or two to three weeks with premium processing. TN can be obtained at the border or port of entry in a single day for eligible candidates. Factor in credentialing and licensure timelines on top of immigration steps, as Rush cannot file your petition until both are complete.
