Construction Project Manager Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction project manager job in Pittsburgh?
Focus on Pittsburgh's active sectors: infrastructure investment along the Mon Valley, commercial redevelopment in the Strip District, and hospital and university construction tied to UPMC and Pitt. General contractors, civil engineering firms, and large institutional owners hire most consistently. A PMP certification or OSHA 30-hour card gives you a concrete edge in a market where owners frequently require both before putting a PM on site.
Which companies hire construction project managers in Pittsburgh?
Employers hiring construction project managers in Pittsburgh right now include BNY, Michels, and Intertek, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's market mixes large regional general contractors, infrastructure-focused civil firms, and major institutional owners managing ongoing capital programs across healthcare, higher education, and public works.
Are there remote construction project manager jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though the role is largely site-dependent, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of construction project manager openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, typically covering pre-construction planning, estimating, and owner-side program management roles that do not require daily site presence.
How can I get a construction project manager job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an assistant project manager or project engineer role with a Pittsburgh-area general contractor or civil firm working on infrastructure and public works projects, where turnover creates steady junior openings. Firms tied to Port Authority and PennDOT contracts often hire graduates from Pitt and Carnegie Mellon's engineering and construction management programs, and a co-op or internship with a regional contractor converts to full-time more reliably than applying cold.
Which industries hire the most construction project managers in Pittsburgh?
The sectors hiring the most construction project managers in Pittsburgh are Staffing & Recruiting, Construction & Real Estate, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's combination of major health system expansions, aging bridge and transit infrastructure, and ongoing commercial redevelopment in formerly industrial corridors keeps demand concentrated across those sectors.
