- Establish, document, and enforce technical standards for development, configuration management, deployment, and technical documentation
- Provide technical direction to other technical consultants, including task assignment, design guidance, and review of their work products
- Conduct design and code reviews and hold the quality bar for maintainability, performance, and security across the technical team
- Serve as the technical escalation point for complex integration, data, and reporting issues, leading root cause analysis and durable resolution
- Mentor and develop technical consultants, building depth on the team through knowledge transfer, pairing, and structured feedback
- Design, build, and deliver the most complex technical components personally, including integrations, conversions, and reporting solutions
- Partner with clients, functional consultants, and project managers to translate business requirements into scalable technical designs and realistic delivery approaches
- Provide technical input into estimates, level of effort, staffing plans, and proposal and capture activities for new and follow-on work
- Assess technical risk across the program, including integration dependencies, data quality, environment readiness, and performance, and communicate it to project and program leadership
- Lead technical planning for implementation, upgrade, cutover, and post-production activities, including production support and defect resolution
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor in client-facing meetings, design sessions, and technical governance forums, and drive improvement of technical standards and delivery frameworks
Qualifications
Preferred Experience
- Professional experience designing, developing, and supporting system integrations, data migration, or reporting solutions, with depth of experience commensurate with the level of the position

- Integration and ETL platforms such as Talend Data Services or comparable tools
- Java and integration frameworks such as Apache Camel and Apache CXF
- Oracle databases, PL/SQL, SQL Loader, or comparable enterprise database technologies
- Reporting and business intelligence tools such as Oracle BI, Power BI, Jasper, or Crystal Reports

Consultant Jobs in McLean: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a consultant job in McLean?
McLean's consulting market is driven by proximity to federal agencies in Washington, D.C., so candidates with experience in government advisory, defense contracting, or IT modernization have a clear edge. Target the Tysons Corner and Route 123 corridors, where management consulting firms and defense-adjacent contractors cluster. Clearance eligibility, familiarity with federal procurement processes, and experience with large-scale program management all strengthen a McLean application significantly.
Which companies hire consultants in McLean?
McLean consultant roles are posted by Unison, Deloitte, and Guidehouse and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. McLean attracts a mix of global management consulting firms, defense and intelligence contractors, and technology advisory companies, many of which maintain headquarters or major regional offices there specifically because of the area's proximity to federal clients.
Are there remote consultant jobs in McLean?
Yes, though availability depends on the type of work: analytical and strategy-focused consultant roles are far more remote-friendly than on-site program support or client-facing government advisory positions, which often require physical presence or security clearances. About 90% of consultant openings tied to McLean are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the area's mix of desk-based and on-site engagements. Hybrid arrangements are most common in management and technology consulting.
How can I get a consultant job in McLean with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in McLean is through junior analyst or associate consultant roles at the mid-size government contractors and technology advisory firms concentrated in the Tysons Corner area. Many of these firms hire entry-level candidates into program support, data analysis, or research roles that build toward full consulting responsibilities. A background in public policy, finance, or information systems, combined with any federal internship experience, gives early-career candidates a meaningful edge in McLean's market.
