CPT Client Associate Jobs
Client Associate roles in wealth management, brokerage, and financial services are CPT-eligible when your program includes a finance, business, or economics curriculum component. Your DSO must authorize the position before you start, and the work must directly integrate with your coursework, not just overlap with your major.

Get Access To All JobsClient Associate CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Client Associate role qualify for CPT authorization?
It depends on how directly the job connects to your enrolled curriculum. Client Associate positions in financial services, wealth management, or brokerage typically qualify when your program includes coursework in finance, investments, client relations, or business. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your specific I-20 program and the job description you submit, not the job title alone.
Can I do full-time CPT as a Client Associate without affecting my OPT?
You can do full-time CPT, but 12 or more cumulative months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, regardless of total duration, does not affect OPT. Most Client Associate internships run one semester, which keeps you under the 12-month threshold, but verify the exact hours and duration with your DSO before signing.
How do I find Client Associate employers who understand CPT?
Migrate Mate lists Client Associate roles filtered for employers with work authorization experience, which reduces the time you spend explaining CPT requirements to recruiters unfamiliar with F-1 rules. Financial services firms that run structured internship programs are generally more familiar with the documentation CPT requires compared to smaller or first-time sponsors.
What documents do I need to start a Client Associate CPT role?
You need a CPT-authorized I-20 from your DSO before your start date, not a standard I-20. To get the authorization, you'll typically submit the job offer letter, a description of how the role integrates with your coursework, and in some cases a faculty approval form. Your EAD card is not required for CPT; the I-20 CPT endorsement is your employment authorization document.
Will my Client Associate CPT position count toward H-1B specialty occupation requirements?
CPT experience in a Client Associate role can support a specialty occupation argument for H-1B visa purposes if the work required and involved applying knowledge from a bachelor's-level field. The O*NET occupation profile for Client Associate shows degree requirements that can help your employer document specialty occupation status on a future LCA. The connection is strongest when the role involved portfolio analysis, compliance work, or structured financial advising rather than purely administrative tasks.
