Does a Digital Marketing Expert role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if the position directly relates to your degree program. Marketing, communications, business analytics, and information systems degrees typically support CPT for this role. Your DSO makes the final determination based on how the job duties map to your coursework, so bring a copy of the job description to your authorization meeting.
Can I do CPT remotely as a Digital Marketing Expert?
Yes, remote CPT is permitted, but the employer must still be a U.S.-based entity with a valid U.S. worksite address for your I-20. Your school will list the employer's address on the CPT authorization. Confirm with your DSO whether your program requires any in-person component before accepting a fully remote offer.
How do I find Digital Marketing Expert employers who understand CPT?
Search for roles on Migrate Mate, which shows employers with documented work authorization filing history. Agencies, in-house marketing teams at mid-size tech companies, and e-commerce brands tend to hire CPT students regularly. Checking OFLC Labor Condition Application records for marketing SOC codes can also surface employers already familiar with the process.
What happens if my CPT end date falls before the project ends?
You must stop working on the CPT end date listed on your I-20. Working beyond that date without a new authorization is an F-1 status violation. If the role is ongoing, return to your DSO before the end date to request an extension, which requires a new I-20 and a continued enrollment connection.
Does CPT as a Digital Marketing Expert count toward H-1B cap-gap or OPT later?
CPT itself does not count toward OPT usage or cap-gap, but accumulated full-time CPT does. If you complete 12 or more months of full-time CPT before graduation, you lose OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, regardless of total duration, does not affect OPT. Plan your CPT structure with your DSO well before your final semester.
