CPT Front Desk Jobs
Front Desk roles in hotels, clinics, and corporate offices qualify for CPT when your program ties guest services, communication, or operations management to your curriculum. Your DSO must authorize each position before you start, and the work must integrate directly with your coursework, not run parallel to it.

Get Access To All JobsFront Desk CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Front Desk job qualify for CPT authorization?
It depends on your program, not the job title alone. Your school's DSO must confirm that Front Desk duties, such as guest coordination, scheduling, or administrative operations, connect directly to your curriculum. Hospitality management, business administration, and communication programs commonly authorize this role. Health information management programs may qualify for clinical front desk positions if patient intake is part of the coursework.
Can I work at a hotel front desk on CPT if my degree is in business?
Yes, if your program's learning outcomes include customer operations, organizational communication, or service management. Hotel Front Desk roles typically align with business and hospitality curricula because they involve scheduling systems, conflict resolution, and team coordination. Your DSO will look for explicit overlap between your class content and the job duties listed in your offer letter, so get a detailed job description from the employer before submitting your CPT request.
How do I find Front Desk employers who already hire F-1 students on CPT?
Migrate Mate lists Front Desk openings from employers with a track record of hiring international students. Filtering by work authorization type helps you focus on positions where CPT is accepted, rather than discovering the issue after an offer is extended. Targeting employers already familiar with CPT reduces the back-and-forth around authorization paperwork and start date timing.
Does full-time Front Desk CPT affect my OPT eligibility later?
Yes. Full-time CPT, which USCIS defines as 20 or more hours per week, eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely if you use it for 12 or more cumulative months across your program. Part-time CPT, under 20 hours per week, doesn't affect OPT regardless of duration. If you plan to use OPT after graduation for H-1B sponsorship, talk to your DSO about structuring your CPT schedule at part-time hours.
What should my offer letter include for the DSO CPT approval?
Your DSO needs the employer's legal business name, the physical work location address, your exact start and end dates, your weekly hours, and a description of job duties. For Front Desk roles, the duties section should be specific enough to show how the work connects to your coursework. Generic descriptions like 'customer service' are often sent back for revision, so ask the employer to include references to scheduling software, communication protocols, or administrative systems you'll manage.
