Nurse Residency Program RESIDENCY CLINICAL TRACKS As a graduate nurse, deciding where to start your nursing career can be a challenge. In addition to our classroom curriculum, our residency program offers a variety of rotating clinical tracks to give you exposure to multiple units prior to deciding which unit is the best fit for you.

Responsibilities
- Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
- Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
- Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution.
- Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
- Works with nurse preceptor to perform all responsibilities required by unit and patient population.
- Accurately and timely, collects and documents data of nursing care rendered to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
- Reports adverse events to improve quality and safety for patients and staff.
- Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
- Utilizing the nursing process, modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
- Receives constructive feedback based on performance and behavior.
- Regularly confers with colleagues to ask questions and expand knowledge base.
- Completes all mandatory training and competency modules.

The salary range for this position is $31.65 - $54.44 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. Does graduate nurse CPT count against my OPT eligibility?
Part-time CPT, meaning under 20 hours per week, has no effect on your OPT. Full-time CPT of 20 or more hours per week reduces your OPT eligibility by one month for each month worked. Twelve months of full-time CPT eliminates OPT entirely, so confirm your expected clinical hours with your DSO before accepting a full-time graduate nurse residency offer.
Can I start a graduate nurse CPT position before passing the NCLEX?
Yes. Many graduate nurse residency programs hire before NCLEX passage, and your CPT authorization can cover that pre-licensure period if your school confirms the role is integral to your curriculum. You'll typically work under a temporary practice permit or supervised scope until your license posts, which your employer's HR team will coordinate with your state board.
How do I find hospitals that are familiar with CPT authorization for nurses?

Hospital systems running formal nurse residency cohorts with international student pipelines are more likely to have HR processes already set up for CPT I-9 completion and semester-based start dates, reducing back-and-forth during onboarding.
Does my CPT authorization need to list a specific unit or department?
Your CPT I-20 update requires the employer's legal name, the position title, and the authorized dates. It doesn't typically require a specific unit or floor. If your residency program rotates you across departments, one CPT authorization covering the full employment period with the same legal employer is sufficient, but confirm this with your DSO before your first rotation.
Can I change hospitals mid-semester if my CPT offer falls through?
You can change CPT employers, but your DSO must issue a new I-20 update authorizing the replacement employer before you begin working there. Working at an employer not listed on your CPT authorization violates your F-1 status. The new authorization also needs to fall within the same academic term, so timing matters and your DSO needs advance notice to process the change.
