Job Summary/Basic Function
Interns with the Department of Student Health, Advocacy, and Wellness (SHAW) obtain hands-on experience in their program of study in preparation for graduation and employment in their chosen field.
All SHAW interns:
- Serve as peer educators for fellow WSU Students, creating and providing health communication in a variety of formats (written, visual, social media, interpersonal, presentations, etc.), and at various on-campus events.
- Assist with programming, marketing, outreach and promotional efforts.
- Research common campus concerns and evidence-based solutions to address them.
- Maintain familiarity with campus and community resources.
- Work on an interdisciplinary team with fellow interns.
Additional duties are determined by program of study.
Required Qualifications
- Current WSU student
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- During your time with us, must be registered for 12 credit hours (or 6 for summer). Students in graduate programs must be registered for 6 credit hours.
- Eligible for internship credit through your program of study (please meet with your department advisor for eligibility criteria)
- Majoring in Health Promotion, Nutrition Education, Public Health, Health Administration, or graduate students from a related program of study
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference is given to students who are approaching graduation.

Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
Physical Requirements of this position
Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision.
Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading. Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection).
