Get Access To All JobsWellness Director CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Wellness Director role qualify for CPT authorization?
A Wellness Director position qualifies for CPT if it's an integral part of your degree program and your DSO approves it before you begin work. Programs in public health, health administration, kinesiology, or organizational psychology typically support this role. The key is demonstrating a direct academic connection, not just a general alignment with your field of study.
Can I do part-time CPT as a Wellness Director while still in class?
Yes. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week during an academic term, doesn't affect your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates OPT eligibility, so if you plan to pursue OPT after graduation, structure Wellness Director CPT as part-time during active semesters.
What documents do I need to start a CPT Wellness Director job?
You need a CPT-authorized I-20 from your DSO listing the specific employer, start date, and end date. The employer will also need your I-20 and your F-1 visa or visa stamp for I-9 verification. Some employers also request your SEVIS transcript or enrollment verification to confirm full-time student status before your first day.
How do I find Wellness Director employers who understand CPT authorization?
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers in health and wellness management who have a history of sponsoring work visas for similar roles. Employers familiar with visa sponsorship typically have HR processes in place for I-9 work authorization documentation, making the CPT onboarding process smoother than with employers who have no immigration filing history.
Does a Wellness Director CPT role count toward H-1B specialty occupation requirements?
CPT work experience in wellness program leadership can support an H-1B visa petition if the role required applying specialized knowledge from a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on the degree requirement of the position, not your student status during the work. Document your responsibilities, reporting structure, and degree-level requirements in detail during your CPT term.
