Our 12-week paid internship program offers firsthand experience and meaningful projects that have an impact on our business. Throughout the program, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals receiving mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities that will expose you to various aspects of our industry.
Build Connections By:
Working alongside our IT department team that serves our customers, employees, and partners across North America and Canada. Collaborating with other Gordon Food Service interns and employees in the following areas:
- Communications
- Finance
- Accounting
- Human Resources
- IT
- Marketing & Merchandising
- Supply Chain
- Revenue Management
Build a Career:
In the IT department by:
- Target Alignment: Focuses on helping the team streamline project coordination and documentation.
- Support the coordination of major infrastructure refreshes and large-scale site initiatives (such as the Shepherdsville, Imperial, or Green Oak projects).
- Work within Jira, specifically organization and prioritization.
- Assist with site/network documentation that we are lagging behind on due to high priority work taking precedence.
Build the Future by:
Being an intern at Gordon Food Service, North America's largest family-owned broadline food service distributor and working alongside our department:
- Attending unique networking opportunities in and outside the office.
- Engaging in our mentorship program.
- Shadowing jobs across the organization to explore your career path potential.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Meet the following qualifications to be considered for our 2027 internship program:
- Currently enrolled in a university pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Network, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
- Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Does an IT Support Technician role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your enrolled program includes coursework in information technology, computer science, systems administration, or a related field. Your DSO must document that the IT Support Technician position integrates directly with your academic curriculum. Generic IT work without a clear curricular connection will not satisfy SEVP requirements, so bring a detailed job description to your DSO meeting.
Can I do CPT for an IT Support Technician role at a remote-first company?
Yes, remote CPT is permitted, but your I-20 must reflect the employer's physical address or your remote work location depending on your school's policy. Some DSOs require a U.S.-based physical worksite listed on the CPT authorization. Clarify your school's remote work policy before accepting a fully distributed role to avoid an I-20 discrepancy.
How do I find IT Support Technician employers who are open to CPT students?

IT departments at universities, healthcare systems, and managed service providers tend to hire CPT students regularly because their internal teams handle compliance paperwork and understand the authorization process.
Does working as an IT Support Technician on CPT affect my future H-1B eligibility?
CPT itself doesn't affect H-1B visa eligibility, but the cumulative time you spend on full-time CPT matters. Twelve or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT, which in turn removes your cap-gap protection during H-1B transitions. IT Support Technician roles are also evaluated under specialty occupation standards for H-1B, so the degree field on your diploma needs to align with the technical requirements of the role.
What happens if my IT Support Technician CPT role ends before my authorized end date?
You must stop working immediately when the position ends and notify your DSO to update your I-20. CPT authorization is employer-specific and position-specific, so you can't transfer it to a new employer or role. If you want to continue working, your DSO must authorize a new CPT job before your first day at the new position, not retroactively.
