Who we are looking for
We are looking for a Business / Operational Auditor, Intern to join the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Audit Team. Within Corporate Audit, the ERM audit team focuses on evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of the firm’s risk governance framework, risk identification and assessment processes, and alignment with regulatory and supervisory expectations. In this role, you will participate as a member of dedicated audit project teams and be directly responsible for carrying out various audit execution tasks that include process and control walkthroughs, operational design assessment and operational execution testing. You will work closely with the audit project lead, fellow audit team members and with business stakeholders across the first and second lines of defense. This role is based out of Boston, Massachusetts.

What you will be responsible for
As a Business / Operational Auditor, Intern you will
- Perform audit work in line with the Division’s risk-based methodology and the Institute of Internal Auditor’s standards to identify and understand risk; determine control objectives; and evaluate whether controls sufficiently address identified risks through various testing techniques.
- Obtain and analyze evidentiary data as a basis for drafting informed and objective opinions on the adequacy and effectives of controls under review.
- Identify and escalate exceptions / issues to key stakeholders within Corporate Audit and in business areas under review.
- Review corrective actions taken by management to improve deficient conditions.
- Develop and maintain current knowledge of audit industry practices, regulatory environment and industry developments.

Additional requirements
While majority of the time you will work from your primary location, some domestic and international travel may be required to a variety of locations where State Street operates.

Salary Range:
$41,600 - $65,000 Annual
The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.

It depends on your program, not the job title alone. Your DSO must determine that the role is an integral part of your curriculum, meaning your coursework in law, business administration, compliance, or a related field directly prepares you for the duties described in the offer. Bring the job description and a course-mapping document to your DSO appointment to make the case clearly.
Can I do part-time CPT as a Legal Business Associate while still in class?
Yes. Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, doesn't count against your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Many F-1 students in law or business programs take on part-time Legal Business Associate roles during the academic year and reserve full-time CPT for a summer term, preserving their 12-month OPT bank.
What documents does the employer need to verify my CPT work authorization?
Your employer needs your CPT-authorized I-20 showing the specific employer name, start and end dates, and your EAD if applicable. The I-20 must reflect the exact position title and employer listed in your offer letter. Any mismatch between the I-20 authorization and the actual role creates an I-9 compliance problem for the employer, so confirm the details with your DSO before your first day.

Working even one day beyond your CPT authorization end date is an unauthorized employment violation that can affect your F-1 status. If the role extends, your DSO must issue a new authorized I-20 before the current authorization expires. Build a renewal request into your calendar at least two to three weeks before the end date, since DSO processing time varies by school.
