Marketing Campaign Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Marketing Campaign Manager role qualify for CPT?
It qualifies if the role is an integral part of your established curriculum and your DSO approves it. Marketing campaign management typically connects to coursework in integrated marketing communications, digital analytics, or brand strategy. The job description must reflect hands-on application of that coursework, not general office work attached to a marketing department.
Can I do CPT as a Marketing Campaign Manager while taking classes?
Yes, part-time CPT runs concurrently with your enrolled courses and doesn't affect your OPT eligibility as long as total part-time CPT stays under 12 months. Full-time CPT is also permitted but eliminates OPT if used for 12 months or more. Most employers offering campaign manager roles will work with part-time schedules during the academic semester.
What documents does my employer need to hire me on CPT?
Your employer needs your CPT-authorized I-20 showing the specific employer name, position, and authorized dates, plus your F-1 visa and a valid passport. They should record your EAD as 'F-1 CPT' on the I-9, not OPT. Errors in the I-9 documentation are common with employers unfamiliar with CPT, so confirm the category before your first day.
How do I find employers who understand CPT for marketing roles?
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies that have previously hired F-1 students. Employers with CPT experience already understand the I-20 authorization process and won't confuse it with OPT. Mid-size marketing agencies and in-house teams at tech companies tend to have the most experience with F-1 work authorization across campaign and growth roles.
Does CPT experience as a Marketing Campaign Manager help with H-1B sponsorship?
CPT work counts as qualifying U.S. work experience for an H-1B petition and strengthens your specialty occupation argument by showing you've applied degree-level marketing knowledge in a professional setting. Employers who hired you on CPT are also more likely to understand H-1B sponsorship requirements. Check your occupation's O*NET profile to confirm the degree-field alignment before your petition is filed.
