Does a Production Control Clerk job qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your academic program includes coursework in supply chain management, operations management, or industrial engineering, and the job duties align with those subjects. Your DSO evaluates whether the role is an integral part of your curriculum, not just related to your major. Bring the job description and your course list to that meeting so the connection is explicit.
Can I work full-time as a Production Control Clerk on CPT during the semester?
Full-time CPT (more than 20 hours per week) during an academic term is allowed but requires your school to grant it and document the academic justification. Some programs only permit part-time CPT during the semester and reserve full-time authorization for summer or between-term periods. Confirm your school's policy before accepting a full-time offer.
How do I find Production Control Clerk employers who are familiar with F-1 CPT students?
Migrate Mate lets you search Production Control Clerk roles and identify employers with experience hiring international students on work authorization. Manufacturing companies in automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods sectors regularly hire CPT students for production coordination roles, particularly in regions with large university populations near industrial clusters.
What happens to my CPT authorization if my employer changes my job title or duties?
Any material change to your job title or core duties requires a new CPT authorization from your DSO. Working under a revised role without updated authorization puts your F-1 status at risk. Notify your DSO in writing as soon as your employer indicates a change, and don't start the new duties until the updated I-20 is issued.
Does using 12 months of full-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility later?
Yes. USCIS rules state that students who have used 12 or more months of full-time CPT become ineligible for OPT entirely, including the STEM OPT extension. Part-time CPT, regardless of total duration, doesn't affect OPT eligibility. If you're weighing a long full-time CPT placement as a Production Control Clerk against preserving post-graduation OPT, discuss the tradeoff with your DSO before accepting.
