CPT COO Jobs
COO roles on CPT let you apply graduate-level coursework in operations, strategy, and organizational leadership directly inside a company. Your DSO must authorize CPT before your start date, and the role must connect explicitly to your degree program, executive operations work typically satisfies that requirement for business and management students.

Get Access To All JobsCOO CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a COO role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your school's DSO confirms the role is an integral part of your degree program. COO positions typically satisfy this for MBA, management, or organizational leadership students because the work directly applies curriculum in strategy, operations, and leadership. The role's duties, not just the title, drive the authorization decision, so your offer letter needs to describe responsibilities clearly.
Can I do full-time CPT as a COO without affecting my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. If you plan to use OPT after graduation, structure your COO CPT as part-time where possible, or keep full-time CPT under 12 cumulative months. Talk to your DSO early to map out the timeline before you commit to a long-term full-time arrangement.
What does the employer need to provide to support my CPT authorization?
Your employer needs to provide a signed offer letter on company letterhead that specifies your start date, hours per week, job title, duties, compensation, and the name and address of the business. Your DSO will use this to authorize CPT in SEVIS. Some schools also require a brief statement connecting the role to your academic program, so ask your DSO for their specific checklist before approaching the employer.
How do I find employers open to hiring F-1 CPT students for COO-level roles?
Browse Migrate Mate to find employers with a track record of hiring F-1 students in operational and executive roles. COO positions on CPT are more common at growth-stage companies and startups where the organizational structure allows for broader leadership responsibility. Filtering by role type and employer size helps you focus on companies where this kind of arrangement is realistic.
Can my CPT COO role later lead to H-1B sponsorship?
It can, but the role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specifically related field. COO positions at some companies meet this bar, particularly in specialized industries. Review the O*NET profile for Chief Executives to understand how USCIS typically evaluates these roles, and confirm the employer is willing to file before you accept a CPT offer with long-term sponsorship in mind.
