Get Access To All JobsSupply Chain Operations CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does CPT work authorization cover internships and full-time supply chain roles equally?
CPT covers both part-time and full-time positions, but using 12 or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Most F-1 students in supply chain programs use CPT for summer internships or co-ops and preserve OPT for post-graduation employment. Confirm your cumulative CPT usage with your DSO before accepting a full-time offer.
Can I do CPT at a third-party logistics or consulting firm if my degree is in supply chain management?
Yes, as long as the work is an integral part of your curriculum and your DSO approves it. Third-party logistics providers and supply chain consultancies qualify if the role involves functions covered by your program, such as demand planning, procurement, or inventory analysis. Your DSO will review the offer letter and job description to confirm alignment.
What documents does a supply chain employer need from me for CPT?
Your employer needs your CPT-authorized I-20, which lists their name, your start date, and your authorization period. Some employers also request your current visa stamp and I-94 record. Unlike OPT, there's no EAD card for CPT, your I-20 is the employment authorization document. Make sure the employer name on your I-20 exactly matches their legal entity name.
How do I find supply chain employers who regularly hire F-1 CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers with documented work authorization history in supply chain and operations roles. Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for supply chain positions understand work authorization requirements and are more likely to have onboarded international students before. Filter by role type and location to narrow your search.
Does CPT in supply chain operations count toward H-1B specialty occupation eligibility?
CPT work experience can support an H-1B visa petition by demonstrating that the role requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, which is the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies. Document your job duties thoroughly during your CPT period. When your employer files an H-1B visa, that employment record becomes part of the specialty occupation evidence.
