Data Analytics Specialist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data analytics specialist in New York?
A bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a closely related field is the standard entry point for data analytics specialist roles in New York. No state-issued license is required for the role itself. New York employers consistently expect proficiency in SQL, Python or R, and at least one major BI platform. Candidates who build a portfolio of real-world projects and earn vendor certifications from Google, Microsoft, or Databricks tend to move through screening faster at New York firms.
How much do data analytics specialists make in New York?
Data analytics specialists in New York earn a median of about $130,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $73,330 for the lowest 10% to over $214,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data analytics specialists in New York?
Employers hiring data analytics specialists in New York right now include Goldman Sachs, NYU Langone Health, and Northwell Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, global media companies, and large hospital systems means demand for analytics talent is spread across multiple industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which New York cities have the most data analytics specialist jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Buffalo have the most data analytics specialist openings in New York. New York City dominates the distribution because of its density of financial services firms, advertising networks, and technology companies, while Albany draws demand from state government agencies and healthcare systems, and Buffalo has grown as a regional hub for insurance and manufacturing analytics.
Are there remote data analytics specialist jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 19% of data analytics specialist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how thoroughly desk-based and tool-driven this work is. Roles focused on dashboard development, reporting automation, and statistical modeling are the most consistently offered in fully remote arrangements, while positions requiring close collaboration with trading desks or clinical teams tend to stay hybrid.
How can I get hired as a data analytics specialist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an analyst associate or junior data analyst role at a large New York employer and building from there. Major institutions including Citigroup, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Verizon run rotational analyst programs and new-graduate cohorts that accept candidates with strong academic records and portfolio projects in place of work history. Lateral moves from adjacent roles in financial reporting, business operations, or market research are also common. A completed capstone project or a Google Data Analytics or Microsoft Power BI certification gives applications a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to data analytics specialist jobs in New York?
