Data And Analytics Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data and analytics in New York?
Breaking into data and analytics in New York typically starts with a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, or economics, though many employers also value applied master's programs from institutions like Columbia, NYU, or Cornell Tech. There is no state-issued license required to work in this field in New York, so the hiring path centers on building a portfolio of projects, earning certifications in tools like Python or Tableau, and targeting industries with the deepest local demand, including finance, healthcare, and media.
Which companies hire data and analyticss in New York?
Employers hiring data and analyticss in New York right now include Citi, Code And Theory, and Morgan Stanley, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of financial institutions, global media companies, and large healthcare systems means hiring is sustained year-round rather than tied to a single seasonal cycle.
Which New York cities have the most data and analytics jobs?
The cities with the most data and analytics openings in New York are New York, Buffalo, and New York City. New York City dominates the distribution because it hosts the headquarters and major offices of Wall Street firms, national insurers, hospital systems, and technology companies, while Albany and Buffalo contribute steady demand through state government agencies, regional banks, and healthcare networks anchored in those metros.

Roles focused on modeling, reporting, and dashboard development tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions requiring close collaboration with trading floors, clinical operations, or on-site data infrastructure are more likely to require in-person presence.

Large institutions like Memorial Sloan Kettering, Citi, and Deloitte's New York offices run analyst development programs that bring in candidates with strong academic backgrounds but limited work history. Building a public portfolio on GitHub, completing a recognized certification, and targeting rotational analyst programs gives candidates without prior titles a concrete edge in a competitive market.
