Data Architect Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data architect in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania does not require a state-issued license to work as a data architect, so the path centers on education and recognized industry credentials. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred for senior roles. Certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Professional Data Engineer, or the DAMA Certified Data Management Professional strengthen candidacy significantly with Pennsylvania employers.
Which companies hire data architects in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring data architects in Pennsylvania right now include Fulton Bank, PNC Financial Services, and Jacobs, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large health systems, financial institutions, and media and telecommunications companies means demand for data architects is broad and distributed across multiple industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most data architect jobs?
Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and Pittsburgh are the Pennsylvania cities with the most data architect openings. Philadelphia dominates due to its dense cluster of financial services firms, health insurers, and large technology operations, while Pittsburgh draws demand from UPMC, Carnegie Mellon University-linked tech companies, and a growing advanced manufacturing and robotics sector that relies heavily on data infrastructure.
Are there remote data architect jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 70% of data architect openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the role's core work translates to distributed teams. Data modeling, architecture documentation, and cloud platform work are the functions most commonly offered remotely, while enterprise discovery and stakeholder alignment sessions are more likely to require occasional on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a data architect in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a data analyst or database administrator role, both of which are common stepping stones at large Pennsylvania employers such as health systems and financial institutions. UPMC, Independence Blue Cross, and major Pennsylvania banks regularly hire junior data or reporting analysts who build toward architecture responsibilities over time. A portfolio demonstrating data model design, a cloud certification, and familiarity with SQL and at least one ETL tool will distinguish candidates without architecture titles on their resume.
Where can I find and apply to data architect jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to data architect jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly from the listing.
