HealthIT Systems Intelligence Solutions
JOB SUMMARY:
Develops, maintains, and supports data architecture and design standards across the organization, with a focus on scalable, sustainable, and clinically aligned solutions. Partners closely with architecture leadership to ensure data, Epic build, and clinical decision support (CDS) solutions are designed and implemented in alignment with enterprise data platforms and clinical workflows. Operates across data, application, and clinical domains to maximize data utility, enable advanced analytics and AI use cases, and maintain reconcilability across systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partners with other architects to design and implement scalable data and CDS architecture across Systems Intelligence and Health Data Repository (Custom tool) HDR teams.
- Designs and supports Epic-aligned solutions, including workflows, CDS (CER rules, OPAs), and supporting data structures (Flowsheets, SmartData Elements, Scoring Systems).
- Ensures alignment between Epic data flows (Chronicles Clarity), downstream data platforms, and enterprise analytics environments (EDW/Databricks).
- Collaborates with Epic application teams, Epic Architect team, data engineers, and analysts to develop integrated solutions that support clinical and operational workflows.
- Contributes to architectural standards and promotes consistency, reuse, and long-term maintainability of solutions.
- Supports development of APIs and integrations, including Epic and enterprise (VUMC) APIs, FHIR, and CDS Hooks where applicable.
- Leverages SQL and modern data platforms to design, validate, and optimize data solutions.
- Contributes to innovation efforts, including exploration and implementation of AI/LLM-driven capabilities and advanced analytics use cases.
- Ensures appropriate documentation, governance, and security of institutional data.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
Epic Architecture & Clinical Systems (Intermediate/Advanced):
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of Epic workflows and how clinicians interact with the system.
- Experience with Epic data structures, build (master files, imports/exports), and data flows (Chronicles to Clarity).
- Familiarity with CDS design and build options (CER rules, OPAs), and Cogito tools (Reporting Workbench).
- Experience developing integrated solutions across Epic applications; deeper knowledge of Chronicles (m-code) is a plus.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple Epic application teams.
Data Architecture & Engineering (Intermediate):
- Experience with data warehousing, data lakes, and modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, EDW).
- Strong SQL skills and ability to design efficient, scalable data models and transformations.
- Understanding of APIs and integration patterns, including Epic APIs and FHIR/CDS Hooks.
Analytics, AI, and Visualization (Intermediate):
- Familiarity with data visualization and storytelling tools (e.g., Tableau, Databricks dashboards).
- Interest in and exposure to AI/LLM technologies (agents, prompting, and applied use cases).
- Working knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python) preferred.
Collaboration & Business Architecture (Intermediate):
- Comfortable working across diverse technical, clinical, and operational teams.
- Ability to translate clinical and business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Contributes to architectural planning and promotes alignment across teams and initiatives.
