Data Operations Manager Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data operations manager in Pennsylvania?
Most data operations managers in Pennsylvania follow a path that begins with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field, followed by several years in data engineering, analytics, or BI roles. Pennsylvania does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh typically look for candidates who have grown through hands-on data infrastructure work, with certifications from platforms like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Databricks adding measurable credibility.
How much do data operations managers make in Pennsylvania?
Data operations managers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $163,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $101,520 for the lowest 10% to over $246,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data operations managers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring data operations managers in Pennsylvania right now include Amazon, JBS INTERNATIONAL, and BNY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large healthcare systems, financial institutions, and telecommunications firms means openings are distributed across both the Philadelphia metro and the Pittsburgh technology corridor.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most data operations manager jobs?
Philadelphia, Erie, and Berwick have the most data operations manager openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia dominates because of its dense cluster of financial services firms, health systems, and corporate headquarters, while Pittsburgh's growth as a technology and AI research hub, anchored by institutions like Carnegie Mellon University and a strong autonomous systems industry, drives consistent demand outside the eastern corridor.
Are there remote data operations manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. Data operations management is largely a desk-based, systems-oriented role, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 38% of data operations manager openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broader trends in technology and analytics hiring. Pipeline monitoring, data quality oversight, and stakeholder reporting are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a data operations manager in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a data analyst, data engineer, or business intelligence associate role at a large Pennsylvania employer and moving into operations management as scope grows. UPMC, Comcast, and regional financial institutions in Philadelphia regularly post junior data roles that serve as on-ramps. Building a portfolio that demonstrates SQL proficiency, pipeline troubleshooting, or a data governance project carries significant weight, and an AWS Cloud Practitioner or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification can compensate for limited professional experience.
Where can I find and apply to data operations manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
