Dentist Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dentist in New Jersey?
To become a dentist in New Jersey, you must earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from a CODA-accredited dental school, then pass the National Board Dental Examinations and a clinically oriented regional licensing exam accepted by the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry. The Board then issues your New Jersey dental license, which you must renew biennially with continuing education credits. New graduates often complete a general practice residency in New Jersey before entering independent clinical practice.
How much do dentists make in New Jersey?
Dentists in New Jersey earn a median of about $171,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,920 for the lowest 10% to over $349,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire dentists in New Jersey?
Employers hiring dentists in New Jersey right now include Nuva Smile, ProSmile, and Aspen Dental, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's mix of large academic health systems, dental service organizations, and community health centers means openings range from employed staff positions at major hospital networks to associate roles at high-volume group practices throughout the state.
Which New Jersey cities have the most dentist jobs?
The cities with the most dentist openings in New Jersey are Trenton, Toms River, and Jersey City. Hiring concentrates in these areas because large health systems, dental service organization regional hubs, and densely populated urban and suburban communities all drive consistent clinical demand, while smaller cities in the listing benefit from federally qualified health centers and community dental programs targeting underserved patient populations.
Are there remote dentist jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they are rare. Dentistry is a hands-on clinical profession, so the overwhelming majority of positions require in-person patient care. About 0% of dentist openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those roles typically involve administrative, clinical education, or dental consulting functions rather than direct patient treatment.
How can I get hired as a dentist in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for a new dental graduate in New Jersey is applying to a general practice residency program at a hospital such as RWJBarnabas Health or Hackensack Meridian Health, both of which run accredited one-year programs that build clinical breadth. Federally qualified health centers across the state also regularly hire new graduates for associate dentist roles with mentorship built in. Holding an active New Jersey dental license and completing ACLS or BLS certification strengthens any entry-level application.
Where can I find and apply to dentist jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to dentist jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current New Jersey openings from employers actively hiring right now. Find the roles that fit your credentials and schedule, then apply directly to each employer without any additional steps in between.
