Design Engineer Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a design engineer in Georgia?
A bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or a closely related engineering field is the standard starting point for design engineer roles in Georgia. While the state does not require a specific license for most private-sector design engineer positions, candidates pursuing roles that involve public safety or construction may pursue Professional Engineer licensure through the Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Strong CAD skills, internship experience, and an engineering portfolio carry significant weight with Georgia employers.
Which companies hire design engineers in Georgia?
Employers hiring design engineers in Georgia right now include Amazon, Dennis, and Great Dane, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Georgia's aerospace corridor along the coast and its manufacturing base in the Atlanta metro generate consistent demand from defense contractors, automotive suppliers, and industrial equipment manufacturers.
Which Georgia cities have the most design engineer jobs?
Atlanta, Duluth, and Griffin have the most design engineer openings in Georgia. Atlanta leads because of its broad industrial and technology manufacturing base, while Savannah's concentration of aerospace employers like Gulfstream and its expanding port-adjacent logistics sector drive demand, and Columbus benefits from the Textron Aviation and defense manufacturing presence anchored near Fort Moore.
Are there remote design engineer jobs in Georgia?
Yes, but they're relatively uncommon, since design engineering often requires hands-on collaboration with prototypes, lab equipment, and production teams. About 36% of design engineer openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the nature of the work rather than employer preference. The portions of the role most likely to go remote include design review, documentation, and CAD modeling for companies with distributed teams.
How can I get hired as a design engineer in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate rotational programs at large Georgia manufacturers, where employers like Lockheed Martin and Gulfstream regularly bring on early-career engineers across their Marietta and Savannah facilities. Cooperative education programs through Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern University also place students directly into paid design roles before graduation. Candidates from adjacent roles like drafting technician, manufacturing engineer, or quality engineer frequently move into design engineering as they build CAD and design review experience.
Where can I find and apply to design engineer jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to design engineer jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and specialty, and apply directly.
